Are you attempting to change your date of birth on your MS account? Changing the date on the MS will not change it on an Xbox account. The birthdate on your Xbox account is permanent.

You can via your Xbox 360 download history with the following steps:

1. To see your purchase history, go to Purchase History and sign in with your Microsoft account (email and password).
   
2. Browse your purchase history. If you want to download something again, click Add to queue. This adds the item to your console's download queue.

You said you set up an adult account? As in just now? Setting up a new account won't resolve the problem. You need to have the original parent account information that was required at the time of sign-up when your child first got his account. If the
system is asking you to verify then he does not have his own adult account, his account is linked to an adult's account. That would be the only way to login and verify.
