I update my X1X whenever there is an update. Well, it somehow forces you. No problems since a long time. Played Red Dead Redemption 2 in the past months, took many screenshots in the game, then following happened:

    • never looked at the screenshots and videos
    • wanted to play an old mission to get gold rating, didn‘t start (stuck in loading screen), tried another - no chance; there was recently an update, so I blame it on the update
    • uninstalled the game
    • wanted to install it again, disc was still in the drive
    • Problem nr. 1: disc was not shown on dashboard, had to remove it from the drive and put back in
    • don‘t know why, but now went to the screenshots, just to see them all gone except for two videos
    • Problem nr. 2: could it be that screenshots are deleted along with game data when you uninstall a game?
This freaks me out! So long playing time, so nice screenshots taken, so many and they‘re simply gone. I also thought, maybe the game didn‘t allow taking screenshots, but why wouldn‘t the box tell me and why wouldmit let me take video clips? And no, it‘s not that the harddrive is full or something, There are only two videos on my box from the whole game.

The game is now installing again. Takes hours. Wants to load the update rightaway, had to go offline to prevent it from updating. Wow, the dashboard and XBox OS have never been worse than now.

    :)

Thanks, but reset my console to lose even more?

This is not my fault, this is because MS makes the XBox worse and worse every time and the game programmers also do. After re-installing the game I couldn‘t play it because it claimed the last game save was damaged, but I suppose it‘s just because it has been written by a newer game build. So it seems I have to install that damn update again that caused all the trouble. It has never been that bad in the past 20 years.

While I was offline I saw that I cannot even access my ingame screenshots and videos, like MS would claim this wasn‘t mine. **** is wrong with Microsoft? This is my freaking console. I paid for it, I paid for the game and if I want to view the screenshots whenever I feel the need it simply wouldn‘t let me. This is not mad, this is sick! After being back online again, in hoped that the missing screenshots would magically re-appear, but to no avail.

The problem is, you cannot even back them up to a harddrive! MS prevents me from downloading my own game clips and screenshots. On a PS4, I can simply copy them to whatever I like, or share them online or whatever. I should have played RDR2 on my PS4 and not on that freaking XBox.

Solution 1 doesn‘t work. There is no power center. After 3 seconds the usual „What do you want to do?“ screen comes and when holding the button longer, it vanishes again..

My console also has no power supply, it‘s an X1X.

The problem isn‘t simply solved by restarting the console. I did in fact a reset, but all problems remain. Of course, now all screenshots and videos are gone though the reset option says it would not erase the games, but clips/screenshots belong to the game and they are in fact deleted. Nice job, Microsoft!

The bug that remains: when uninstalling a disc based game while the disc is in the drive doesn‘t make the disc icon appear.

Another basic problem: other than in Windows, you cannot uninstall game updates

The concept problem that remains: screenshots/clips are not stored where the games is installed which would a) not preserve them from being deleted by reset and b) wouldn‘t move them along with the game when moving it to an external drive.

I understand, in this case then just turn off the console completely, for that follow the procedure below.

Click the Xbox  button to open the dashboard.

Select Profile & System > Settings > General > Power & Startup Mode.

    In Options, select Complete Shutdown

After you have turned off the console completely, unplug it for at least 3 minutes and then put it back on.

Hello, how are you? My name is Mateus. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

First of all, I'm sorry you're having this problem.

Please try to carry out the solutions below.

    Solution 1:

You can also hard reset the Xbox One console and its cache. Here is how to do so:

Step 1. Press and hold the Xbox button on the console for at least 10 seconds to open the Power center.

Step 2. Then unplug the power supply from your console and wait for 3 minutes.

Step 3. Plug the power supply back into the Xbox console.

Step 4. Press the Xbox button on the console to turn it on again.

*If that doesn't solve the problem you can also try resetting the console to factory defaults choosing to keep your games and applications as it may have corrupted your console.

    Solution 2:

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

    Select Reset console.

On the Reset your console? screen, you'll see three options:

Reset and remove everything. This option resets the console to factory settings. All user data, including accounts, saved games, settings, Xbox home associations, and all games and apps will be deleted.

Use this option when selling or gifting the console, or as a last resort in some troubleshooting cases.

Reset and keep my games & apps. Use this option as your primary choice when troubleshooting. It resets the OS and deletes all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps.

In some cases, if the corrupt game file is causing the issue you're troubleshooting, you may have to choose Reset and remove everything, but you should always start with Reset and keep my games & apps.

Cancel. To back out of this screen, simply select the Cancel button. No action has been taken at this point. This is a safe exit from this screen.
