    Variable Refresh Rate greyed out?


    Hi, I have a Samsung QN55Q8FNB and I have verified through Samsung support that this TV does have VRR available, but my Xbox One X has VRR greyed out as an option. If anybody knows why this is happening or how I can fix it I'd appreciate the help.

    Variable refresh rate (freesync) greyed out

    Hi I have a LG 27UD68P 4K monitor plugged into my Xbox One X but the option for freesync is greyed out, I have spoken to LG and they say the monitor will output freesync over hdmi, any help would be greatly appreciated

    I think FreeSync support is only available for consoles that are in the Alpha and Beta tiers of the Xbox Insider program. If you are in the Xbox Insider program and experiencing issues with FreeSync then I would encourage you to post this in the

    Hey there,

    I'd be happy to try and help.

    What resolution and refresh rate set up do you have on your Xbox?

    I would suggest starting off with a hard reset and power cycle. Hold down the power button on the console until it turns off, and unplug the power cord from the Xbox and power outlet for a few minutes.

    Currently it is set to 4K UHD and 60Hz. I just tried the hard reset and it's still greyed out.

    Samsung released a new firmware for your TV model on Oct 1st. Make sure that you have the latest update on your TV. It should be version 1103 or later for Freesync support.

    Next, you will need to enable the setting on your TV before the Xbox will detect the capability, and enable the selection in the display settings.

    FreeSync is activated by enabling the TV's Game mode and
    FreeSync settings

    If both your TV and the Receiver fully support eARC, then it might work. You may need to check both suppliers (amp and TV) for firmware updates before attempting.

    You have an interesting setup conundrum that is only likely to get more common with more TVs supporting VRR. I really hope that you find a working path that you can share with all of us!

    Does doby atmos work with optical though?

    Is there a way I can connect hdmi direct into the tv and into the amp so I can get doby atmos? may be hdmi splitter box?

    IRB is correct, the device receiving the immediate output from the Xbox must support the VRR. It does not pass through an intermediate device. You may be able to run the HDMI directly to the TV, and use optical audio to the receiver.
