V bucks not appearing

I recently bought the yellow jacket starter pack for fortnite on the microsoft store. I paid with a $5 giftcard, and it says I own this product. I log on to my account on the computer to find its not there. Was I supposed to link an xbox account with it?
Or did I need to have a fortnite account with the email i used to but it?

All the content on the Microsoft Store for Fortnite is for the Xbox One version of the game. So yes, you need an Xbox account to be able to access the content you purchased for Fortnite.

V-bucks appear in-game when the purchase is made, if not quit the game and re-launch then check your v-buck balance.

It can take a while for the amount to update, you can try doing this Power cycle console

You can link your account to the Epic website, but even if you do so to make the V-Bucks appear, you would need an Xbox to sign in and sign in through Xbox.

In your case it is ideal to request a refund and then buy the V-Bucks normally from Epic.
