hi wondering if anyone can help. so the xbox one control isnt as good as my 360 control used to be. i could play in any room in the house including the loft and it would be fine but with xbox one it disconnents reguarly. i was wondering if anyone had managed
to use either usb over cat5/6 or active usb extensions to run the xbox one control in wired mode in a different room? if so how well did it work. im looking at around 10-15metres of cabling straight up my walls. any advice appreciated thanks

Using Xbox One From Another Room

Probably depends on which media remote you get. I could see the official one not using IR, but I hear that one is hard to find. Something like the PDP one probably does use IR.

It's you're putting things in a cabinet that doesn't allow live of sight, you'll probably want a IR repeater anyway for your other electronics in there.

Aside from that though, I'd stay away from Samsung at the moment. They have been too overpriced the last few years and things only got worse this year.

I’ve been researching. Samsung has the best side profile of any TV on the market. And based on where the TV is going to be positioned, I don’t want it sticking out too far. Only other options are OLED (too expensive for a 65”) or potentially the Sony X930e. But the X930e is essentially the same priced as what I have locked on a Samsung Q9F (which is 1” thick and can use Samsung’s No Gap wall mount)—picture quality will be good enough.

If you're looking at the Q9F (2017 model?), then OLED are not too expensive for a 65". You can get a 65" LG C8 for $2,300 on Ebay. The 65" Q9F is going for $3,000. You'd be gaining less than an inch of thickness a the max, as well. This is why I was saying Samsungs are way overpriced these days. Even if you found it for slightly less then the C8, the difference in picture quality would be worth it alone.

If you don't want IR, then I think you have to go with using the controller. I read up on the official media remote and even those use IR. Again though, those ones haven't been available for some time.Click to expand...

I’m looking at a 2017 Q9F that is $1,600 for the 65” model (with the likelihood that it will have a discount from the retailer in the coming month). I’m also into the the OneConnect box that will move the connections to a separate location—and Samsung sepcific No Gap wall mount (which cuts down on AT LEAST .5” of space against the wall).

And my point of wanting the Media Remote is to NOT use the controller for BluRay controls.

What are you looking to control it for?

Your best option would be to use your phone, or another PC as a controller, but it depends on your use case - if you want to play games, that won't really work.

Hi there,

I have my XBox One unit sitting in a server rack in the garage - and the TV is in the living room.

The controller signal does not reach the XBox from that far away.

Video signals are being sent over CAT6 via an HDMI matrix - and come through just fine.

What is the easiest/most reliable way of being able to use the controller?

Is there some sort of hardware which will be able to accept the wireless signal and send it over the

additional ethernet cable I have available?

Is there some way of either boosting the signal strength so that it reaches the rack - or taking

advantage of the existing Cat6 cables I have available to achieve a good outcome?

The screenshot is off my xbox in the living room. That xbox is set to home. This is with using another made-up gamertag, not my Gold one that my son is using in his room.

Thanks Win2k!! I get the feeling the Xbox One is not meant for a media room / closet setup. I have read a lot of the older posts and the 360 controller would let you move room to room and you could still play / use the xbox controller.
