Using the Kinect as an IR Receiver

Thanks ahead of time for reading this. I finally was able to purchase a Kinect for my Xbox One and controlling both my TV and cable with my media remote is awesome. However, due to space limitations my console is at an awkward angle to receive signals
from my media remote. Is there any way to use my Kinect as a receiver for IR signals from the remote? If not, is a feature like this possible and could it perhaps be part of a future update for the Kinect? It seems reasonable to me that the Kinect would be
a way better receiver than the internal one in the console.

    :)

Question about upcoming Xbox one remote

The official news post about the remote *only* says that Kinect is used for IR blasting your TV and your AV receiver. It doesn't say that Kinect is used to receive the remote's signals for controlling the console itself.

Given that, and given that the console does have its own IR receiver, I'd assume that control of the console itself is direct using the remote. Kinect is just needed for TV/AV control, as the remote does not send signals to those directly.

Remote > IR > Console = console control.

    Remote > IR > Console---Kinect > IR > TV & AV = TV & AV control

    New Kinect

Does anyone know if the K2 is the IR receiver for the Xbox On as well as it's IR blaster?

The current position of my 360 is in a place where my remote can't see it.. if it could receive IR signals through the Kinect that would be very useful for me.

  4. Using the Kinect as an IR Receiver

Hey there. The Kinect has an IR blaster in it (to control other devices), but to my knowledge it doesn't have any capability to be used as an IR receiver. Probably unlikely that such a feature could be added, but you could alwyas suggest it over at

How do I use IR Port in back?

Does the xbox IR port repeat any remote I point at the kinect? My xbox one is at front of room (as there is no 40ft kinect extension cable). The rest of my equipment is in a closet, it includes items not controllable via xbox. Can I plug an IR extender
cable into the IR output port and use tho kinect to receive IR signals and send them to the closet?

xbox one media remote control tv volume WITHOUT Kinect ... possible?

    No, it's not a universal remote: (www.xbox.com/.../media-remote)

The remote controls TV/receiver power and volume through Kinect, or an IR extender cable (cable not included).

You need Kinect or IR Extenders.
