Using the adapter only for a mic won't work?

Need help with a connection problem. This is my audio set up:

    1) Headphones connected to a DAC subsequently connected to the optical port of the Xbox One (fabulous game audio!)

    2) Separate mic with 3.5mm male jack connected to a headset splitter adapter (Y cable), which is connected to the adapter on the controller. The splitter obviously has two connections, one for the mic and one for the game audio. I only use the mic
    connection.

The problem is that I can't hear the other players when they chat. (All audio levels on the adapter are set correctly).

If I disconnect the headphone jack from the DAC and connect it to the audio connection of the splitter everything is fine. I get chat and game audio OK but the sound quality is miles away compared when using the DAC.

How can I get the chat audio to work using my set up??

    Thanks for any info.

    :)

Question about Headsets and Xbox One.

I use a BenQ Monitor with HDMI...I also have my Astros A40 plugged in and using my headset for Audio....only thing at this time is the Mic will not work with the Headset....You can use the Headset/Mic they gave for your sound and Mic as well until the adapter
    is released.

It could be a problem with the controller? Try this mic with another controller and see if that fixes the issue. Also, if you are using an adapter try using the mic without the adapter as adapters can become faulty
