Using External Hard Drives for Games and Media Simultaneously

I'm thinking about purchasing an external hard drive for my Xbox One, but I wanted to find out if you can use it to store media as well as games, or whether I would need to buy two hard drives - one for games and one for media.

OK... I hope someone understands me and can help

For years I used my 360 for watching films on my xbox from my 2tb external hard drive. Then one day it just wouldn't work. The hard drive works on my PS3 and computers. But the portable device option on my 360 always stays grey.

I thought it was just the USB connections had decided to die.

So today I bought another 360 and get the same problem.

Is there something stupid Im not doing? Is there a new setting I need to tick?

Its fat32 formatted and like I said works on every other device.

 

You would need to purchase two drives as the game drive can only hold games. However, just so you know you don't need to have a second drive as the media player app can see your PC without needing an extra hookup.
