    Using External Hard Drive ?

I plan on getting a Xbox One next month and I want to get a external drive to go with it . I plan on getting a 4TB external hard drive that has usb 3.0 . I would like to just buy all my games digitally and store them on the 4TB external hard drive . Will
a 4TB drive work ? Can you play games and apps off of the 4TB drive and will it be as fast as the built in drive ?

    :)

    Using External Hard Drives

I've heard you can use an external hard drive with Xbox.

I would like to save some movies on a WD external hard drive and be able to hookup the hard drive to the Xbox and play them that way.

Is this possible? If so, are there instructions anywhere?

    Thanks

USB hard drives are compatible with the Xbox. You just need to format it with the Xbox, and then you can load it with movies and other media files.

See the support articles for more information:

    - Xbox One: Storage on Xbox One

    - Xbox 360: Xbox 360 Storage (disregard the bit about "flash drives", it should also apply to USB hard drives as well)

In short yes to all your questions, remember if you want to play other media ie music/videos you need another HDD/USB Stick.

Just to jump on, here, in addition to what Growling said, not only should the external drive work "as fast" as the internal drive, but for most people, I've heard that the External Drive actually vastly speeds up the responsiveness of the console! I own
a 3TB drive, and my console runs great with it. Plus, I only have about 9% full out of 3TB, and I own about 10 games.

  7. @GrowlingYapper I own a 4TB external HD that I use to play media off of on my Xbox 360. It was a bit of a pain getting it to recognize it as well as recognize it as a media player which are two totally different things. Do you know if a 4TB would work as
a media player on an Xbox One. I plan on grabbing a one but want to use my external as a media drive and have no intentions of using it as a stroage for games, etc.

You shouldn't have any problems, if it is 1.0 or 2.0 usb it will be recognized as your HDD for media files, if its 3.0 usb and want to use just for media files music/video/pictures just don't format it with your console.
