  1. Using CTIA earbuds on a controller featuring 3.5mm

So, figured what a great idea it would be to modify my HTCs to my senheisers.

I can send a voice message, play it back and i sound crystal clear. Hop in to a party chat and no one can hear me, sounds like im talking through a sock?

Weird thing is, MS state that you need to have CTIA standard which is what i am using. Tried some galaxy s3 ones too and exhibited the same results.

Cat work this one out, is the controller OMTP?

    :)

  2. Help

Hi there AkinLeopard, thanks for reaching out.

To check, are you using Apple earbud headphones?

Beats & Apple headphones use OMTP standard for 3.5mm audio jacks but Xbox One uses the CTIA standard. You can try purchasing a third-party accessory CTIA to OTMP adapter but we're not able to guarantee that will help.

For best results, you'd want to use a headset with CTIA as called out on the page here:

Do I need the Stereo Adapter if the earbud jack is 3.5mm?

Doing some research because I want to use Earbuds for casual gaming. All signs say I need the stereo adapter for my original Xbox One controller. If the controller only supports 3.5mm and the earbuds are 3.5mm do I still need the adapter?

    The earbuds I'm looking at

My friend has these and they work with his Xbox One S controller(Different than the normal controller, I know), and it says its compatible with all 3.5mm devices. Does that include the controller? Do I really have to drop $35 just to use earbuds to play
    and talk?

(I plan on using the mic, too)

Issue With Headset On Xbox One

What kind of headphones are they? I assume they're plugged in via 3.5mm jack on the controller? If they are, there's still a matter of incompatibility as the 3.5mm interface could be either CTIA or OMTP standard.

    Here's a clip from the
    support page
    :

"If you use an OMTP headset, you’ll probably experience audio or chat issues. However, if your headset or earbuds use the OMTP standard, you can purchase an adapter to convert the device to CTIA.
These adapters are available at many electronic retail stores."

I can not turn the volume up on my Xbox one s

Hello again, it's very strange that the two controls are in the same situation, have you ever tried to update the controls and test with another type of Headset on the controls?

There are two connection patterns, the Xbox controller needs to be CTIA.

    https://support.xbox.com/en-us/help/hardware-ne...

Not all 3.5mm audio jacks are made to the same standard. There are two audio jack standards:

Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), and

    Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP)

If you use an OMTP headset, you’ll probably experience audio or chat issues.

However, if your headset or earbuds use the OMTP standard, you can purchase an adapter to convert the device to CTIA. These adapters are available at many electronic retail stores.

The following images show the differences in the CTIA and OMTP standards. The

CTIA standard has the microphone section of the jack closer to the end of the cable while the OMTP standard has the ground section of the jack closer to the end of the cable.

    headset

    Could go for the official
    Xbox One Stereo Headset
. I've seen it on sale for $50 different places over the last month. Another option is you can get the headset adapter and any 3.5mm headset or earbuds designed for a cell phone that uses the CTIA plug standard and you will
get game and chat audio right through the controller.
