Using an Xbox voucher as part payment

Hello, I got given them as Xbox gift card, but when I try to pay on the Xbox it didn’t give me a Microsoft account payment option? Just my card/paypal/redeem voucher or Apple Pay? But if I use the £100 to buy say modern warfare what will happen to the remainder £30 ? If it’s just using the voucher code not Microsoft balance ?

I used to have a 360 but I never had a credit card or paypal account. Never trusted them but thats just how I feel about them. Ive always used vouchers bought from Game

They do need to add 'pay by voucher' to the options for methods of payment. When I clicked on choose method of payment, the only option I was given was to register a credit card.

Everyone needs to get off this 'Everyone has a credit card' train when it comes to customers

Unfortunately it is not possible to use and Xbox gift card balance to purchase an Xbox Live Gold Subscription you will need to either purchase an Xbox Live Gold membership card/voucher or register another payment method to your account such as a debit/credit
card or papal to purchase Xbox Live Gold.

I should have pointed out that I didn't want ANY payment methods associated with the account to avoid the temptation for my son to just buy points on it without asking (as yesterday)!

Having got assistance from XBL support (very good BTW) there are two ways for parents to avoid this situation:

1. Buy a XBL Gold voucher and pay your annual fee by using the voucher code. When you get the expiry reminder email from XBL a year later DON'T renew by card/Paypal but instead buy another voucher!

2. If you already have subscribed by card/Paypal & you can't remove payment details then contact XBL support as I did and they can cancel the account & delete any payment method details whilst simultaneously issuing you voucher codes to re-instate the account
to the correct end date but now WITHOUT any permanent storing of payment details. All account points/history are intact as before and you can then add/delete payment options for your child so that they can buy further points but only WHEN YOU SAY SO!
