  2. I don't have an external drive but have read that using the port on the back of the XBox One is better than the port at the side.

Are you using the side port?

  3. Using the same drive. I brought it over to a friends place and nothing works. Takes forever to load up the games library. Some games start and some freeze up. Some games won't even copy to the internal drive. It worked earlier on my Xbox. We both have the
same latest March update. I've also noticed my Xbox slow. Sometimes the games have a hard time too. Freezes at the home screen. I'm wondering if some of these game files are corrupt. Not sure what's going on. I hope it's not that there's too many games on
my drive because then that's gonna suck for everyone else. I'm gonna re-install the games on my drive to see if it's my drive.

  4. Using an External Hard Drive... Ridiculously Slow!?

Is this a drive with a power source of its own or is it powered only by USB?

  5. It's powered by USB. May be just the drive. I hear Seagates and Samsungs are unreliable.

  6. I'd say that is the problem then. USB powered drives are known not to be as quick as their cousins which use a separate power supply.

I use the 4TB Seagate which has it's own power supply and it works fine.

USB Powered may be the issue here if it's not actual internet speeds.

  9. My internet has been iffy at home. AT&T has been doing a lot of work lately, I hope theyre upgrading to Gigapower. Using my Xbox at my girlfriend's place with better internet, Comcast. Some of the games that wouldn't start, start. But, some are still corrupt.
I re-downloaded those games and now they work internally. I'll keep y'all posted on whether they work on the hard drive and since the new preview update came out, I'll be seeing if the previous was a factor.

I do have a 3TB with external power. I may consider that though the dang thing is heavy. I travel with my Xbox a lot!

I did read reports that the supplied USB3 cables can be poor and sometimes cause the connection to drop to the much slower USB2 standard. Might be worth trying a new cable? (cheap fix if I'm right, not much money if I'm wrong?)

  11. I have a Toshiba 3 TB hard drive. I've had it for awhile now. And ever since I got it I've had games that won't install (via "installation stopped" notification) and the console in general has been slow. I always figured it was the "Xbox One Slowness" but
recently when I've attempted to install a game. I've unplugged the Hard Drive and the games actually will install. However, I only have so many GB on my Internal Storage and I know filling up the storage makes it even slower! How do I solve this? New hard
drive? That thing was expensive. And Microsoft never helps much when I call.

Using an External Hard Drive... Ridiculously Slow!?

    Hey there DARTH PMAN,

What's the drive's brand and model? I would suggest connecting the drive to a working PC and running some diagnostic tools to see if the drive is healthy and performing properly. A test of the S.M.A.R.T. status shoudl tell you if the problem comes from the
drive or not. Check the RAW values of the S.M.A.R.T. status - they should tell you pretty much what's wrong with the drive. If you are not sure how to read them - feel free to post them here. Using an External Hard Drive... Ridiculously Slow!? :)
