Using a WD My Book for both pc and Xbox one storage

Hey, how's it going? I was hoping someone could explain to me how, if possible, to use a WD My Book 3TB for an external drive for both an Xbox One and a pc? Like, can I store my games and apps from my xbox to create space, then unplug it and plug the My
Book into my laptop and back up my internal disk?

External Hard Drive interfering with HDMI signal?

Hello

Have you tested if that WD External drive works properly on a PC? Is that a WD My Book or a WD Elements Desktop drive?

I would consider testing the drive's health with
WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic and see if the device is operating properly.

Are you using the same power outlet to power both the console and the External Drive? I would try using different power outlets.

WD my book 3TB external hard dive, need advise

I have a 2tb my book wd, the drive is formatted to NTFS (default) in my pc after format I plug it into my xbox one and nothing shows up, it doesn't show up under settings>system>storage. The white light of the drive just blinks but nothing happens.

Nope, you can't do that. The XBOX One will take the entire drive and format it all for use with games and apps. To use it on a PC after that it will have to be reformatted by the PC. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

As Genesis pointed out, unfortunately this can't really be done as the console takes up the entire drive.

You may be able to find a workaround or some other suggestions here:

lastly, I have three WD programs installed on my PC from the first use with this. It is the WD Smartware, WD Security, and WD Utilities. WD Security does not recognize that the My Book is connected, WD utilities does, but when I check status it says Smart
Status Failed, and when I choose to erase disk it says too many bad passwords. in the WD smartware tool, it shows the My book but doesn't allow me to open My book or view the properties. Since I can see any options anywhere to re-format this I'm not sure
what else there is to do besides erase the disk.
