Using a PC monitor - explanation needed.

I am having a problem getting my x1 to display properly on my monitor. My monitor obviously takes a full RGB signal, however, when I set the x1 to display full RGB I'm getting clipped whites and colors, black levels seem to be ok. my main monitor is an asus
but the problem happens on my Samsung monitor as well. On my led tv, a samsung, I have the x1 set to limited and the tv set to accept the limited range and everything is perfect. If I set the tv to PC mode and ready to accept a full RGB signal and set full
RGB on the x1 I get the same problem as on my monitors.

i have an xbox 360 and a ps4 and I can use my monitors with full RGB no problems, it's only the x1 I'm having this trouble using full RGB. I assumed it was a bug but I can't find too many people complaining about it , surely there are more than a few people
using monitors or PC mode with their x1's. So I'm hoping someone using a monitor with their x1 properly can guide me to a fix somehow.

To give you something to test, if you have BF4, load the disc in the tray but don't start the game. On the home screen, the tile on the bottom row that has the disc icon and bf4 image should show rain drops above the soldier's head along with a disc icon.
This shows up fine using limited RGB but when I'm using full RGB everything above the soldier's head is clipped and almost solid white.

i tested this on a calibration disc and it seems that the upper range of whites are clipped together, some might call it white crush. It's why the sun doesn't show up on the x1 calibration using full RGB but does when set to limited. if anybody has a monitor
or tv that can act as a monitor and bf4, test it out and see if you get anything different using full RGB. If you have a fix, please share... Thanks.

    :)

    Xbox One to PC

I think the OP's intention was to hook a PC and One to a single monitor possibly using the PC's sound setup too. That is the only explanation I can see to wanting to plug the One into a PC.

Why you would do that is another question. I'm assuming its a cost saving issue because plugging a next gen console into a monitor that's so old it doesn't have HDMI support kind of defeats the purpose.

Yeah, I've tried all the color depth settings to be safe, but it didn't change anything. I don't think there is any content really created using more than 24 bit anyhow , so it seems unnecessary to up it.

Hoping to hear from someone successfully using a monitor with the full range. If this is a bug in the OS, you'd think everyone using a monitor would have their pitchforks out for microsoft to fix it, since they don't, I may just have a defective unit and
might need to send it in for service.

  6. I used to use a Acer GD24HQ 120hz Monitor and didn't notice anything wrong with it personally (so wouldn't have tested for anything specific). Have sold it since so wouldn't be able to test outside of using my HDTV. To be honest a HDMI display is a HDMI
display. It shouldn't make any huge difference if it's a monitor or a TV other than frame latency etc as long as they're set up properly.

Just out of interest, have you set the display connection manually in the Xbox One settings to HDMI instead of Auto?

It's something you probably wouldn't notice unless you were looking at something you knew well or were to try and calibrate your monitor. Like I said it's just the upper ranges in the white that are clipping, but this would also affect the upper ranges of
color too. Yes, I tried manually moving it to hdmi, I even tried an hdmi to dvi cable but no luck.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

The first photo is on limited RBG and you can clearly see the disc icon and rain, in the second all of this detail is lost using full RBG. The rest of the spectrum seems fine and it would be easy to miss, but it's still not correct. In forza 5, if you have
a shiny car on a sunny track you're going to miss some detail in the way light reflects off of your car. It affects everything from games to movies. When I watch a movie or play a game I want to see what the artist intended for me to see.

So, if you set it to limited RGB everything is fine, but when you set it to full it's clipped?

Erm.......why not leave it at limited.

If I was using my tv with the x1 I would use limited, but I use my monitor which won't take limited. That's why I referred to a PC monitor in the title. Surely there are others using a monitor for gaming.

  10. Am I correct in saying you have this issue on a Samsung TV set to PC mode, connected via HDMI? Just for clarification.

Yes, tried that as well. Same outcome as the monitor. On the samsung tv you have to set the hdmi black level to normal to use full RGB or low for limited. Really, I just want to know if my xbox is defective or if this is just a problem with the OS. I've
tried to use two different monitors and my HDTV, all withy the same outcome so I know my monitors are not the problem. Thanks in advance for any answers you guys may have.

  12. Run me through exactly what you would like me to try, step by step, I will try this on my Sharp Aquos in PC mode and see if I have a similar issue (I have Battlefield 4 also).

Using a PC monitor - explanation needed.

Just put your xbox in full rbg and set your tv to pc mode but make sure your tv black level can accept full rbg. Load the disc but don't play the game, look at the tile where the disc icon is and see if the whites clip and blur or if you can see all the
    detail.

    Xb1 clipping

    Images for reference. Thanks.
