Using 3TB external HD with 2 partitions for Xbox 360

Is it possible? I was going to be a 2tb for it, but the 3TB version was on sale for only 15 more dollars. If I partitioned it into a 2TB and a 1TB (really 720GB~) sections, would the 360 be able to read both partitions as two separate drives? Or would it
still only recognize 2TB of the drive?

    :)

The lack of replacable HDD slot is a joke !

The Xbox 360 had a hard set limit on the partition sizes allowed on external devices. Xbox One will NOT have this same limit.

Personally, I prefer having an external USB 3.0 3TB or 2TB to use instead of an internal. Easier to swap, easier to take with you. USB 3.0 is pretty darn fast too. I can get a 3TB USB3.0 drive on sale for under 140$.

    Xbox One External HD

Hello, Once an external HD is formatted to my Xbox One can instill use it for my PC? Or is my 3TB External HD a now permanent attachment for my Xbox One? Also this is a never been used before 3TB External HD. My Xbox One is saying there's only 2.7TB free.
Is that the limit or is there a problem? Thanks!

Both partitions as separate drives? If they're formatted correctly, then possibly. No way of telling. The 360 is...unpredictable at times.

So, after some trial and error and talking with Microsoft Support, the answer is no. The 360 has a hardwired 2TB limitation, regardless of partitions, reducing the usable space, etc. It will simply give an error if you try to format a drive larger than 2TB.
Sending back the 3TB for a 2TB. Will update thread then the 2TB arrives to confirm that was the issue.

Just an update for anyone looking at this in the future. Got the 2TB drive, hooked it up, formatted with no problems. Same drive in every respect except the size. So it looks like there is a hard wired limitation on the 360 that will give you an error if
you try to format a drive over 2TB, regardless of how you set it up.
