Username Character Limit

yeah, I just sucked it up and changed it to "SvenTheDrago" and at the time of posting that question, I didn't realize that the reduced character limit was put in place so that we can have whatever username we want, so I'm cool with the reduced character
limit now.

The only way to swap the names of the accounts would be to change the tag to something else and then rename then, paying each time. But you would be limited to the 12 characters when you make the change.

The 12 character limit went into place in 06/2019. It's so people can use a gamertag even if someone else is already using it. If someone else already has the tag, you would be given a suffix (# and numbers) which is why the limit was shortened. If you had
a gamertag that was over the 12 characters prior to the change, you were not made to change it, but if you change it now you cannot go back to a 15 character tag.

I have the same problem, the game get stuck in the blue bar after download the update. Do your username have strange characters?

I read that in the folder C\:User\"Username", the username cannot contain strange characters. My user have it.

I wonder whether the ability to have the same username (albeit with numbers after it) came from complaints that people were annoyed they couldn't have their preferred username? When you consider how long Xbox Live has been around (20 years or so yes? Or more?) and then consider how many players over those years registered gamertags (I want to hazard a guess and say a hundred million maybe? Perhaps more? And not taking into account the number of players who have multiple gamertags), not really a surprise.

Character limit: I can see why it annoys people as I can't see a good reason for the change when they reduced it...personally makes no difference as my preferred tag is less than the 12 limit anyway

Non-English characters: Makes no difference to me personally as I wouldn't use them but, as you say, would allow more variety and give a greater chance for someone to have a unique username.

Honestly I agree with you, it is a load of garbage they reduced the character limit. While having a 15 letter username now is more unique, this username i always wanted finally got freed up and guess what, i cant get it since it is 13 characters. I have
been waiting 5 years for it to be available but microsoft decided to make this very dumb decision. All these xbox ambassador are just sucking up to microsoft and xbox, they have a username they want to they don’t understand. This 5 years of waiting and now
I can’t even get it. It makes it feel like the waiting was pointless, but you know what, it is available on ps4. Might honestly just sell and get one since xbox keeps making these imo dumb changes with multiple things.
