What do I need to know when I want to buy a used Xbox 360 console? It will probably be the original 360.

X Box 360 Slim Power supply

The power supplies used by the original Xbox 360 consoles are not compatible with the Xbox 360 S console. The Xbox 360 S console uses only a 135-watt power supply.

How to correct formatting external memory card for Xbox 360

Is this a USB stick or an actual Xbox 360 memory unit (used in the first-gen Xbox 360 consoles)?

Hi there,

- you will need to know if it is working correctly and being able to connect to xbox live

- You can also do a console check here:
enforcement.xbox.com/.../ConsoleCheck to check if there were any past enforcement actions against it

- Is a family passcode present on the console, since you want that to be removed. If it is there and you don't know the code you will need to contact Xbox Support

- Are there any modifications made to the console, since they could result in a console ban

That is what I can currently think of.

Another thing to watch for is if the unit was purchased by the previous owner under contract and if that contract was fulfilled. Many people jumped on that by an Xbox 360 for $100 with a two year contract for Live, then don't fulfill the contract and sell
what is essentially a banned console to you. Also make sure the factory seals are intact because if the machine has been opened up, Microsoft will not repair it, even at a cost, should anything go wrong. I'd also try to avoid any early issue 360 consoles -
if there is no HDMI port definitely pass on it as you may be sitting on a RROD time bomb.

Just to make sure I understand, was the old console an original white Xbox 360 console, and Elite, or an Xbox 360 S console?

We always recommend using the power supply that was designed for that style of console. For example: You can't use an Xbox 360 S power supply with an Xbox 360 E console.

So if your old Xbox 360 console is not an Xbox 360 S console, we suggest
not using the power supply from your new Xbox 360 S console with it.
