Used console and digital games question.

I was wondering what happens here?

Used consoles are not my thing. I was helping someone today who bought a used console and all games that were digital on it. There are 3 previous accounts on it but he cannot sign into any of them. He created his own account. It is set to his home console
yet whenever he launches a game it returns to the home screen.

What needs to happen for him to play the digital games on the used console?

Once MS and Sony see the backlash, of always on internet and no used games they have 3 choices, abandon the new consoles, rethink the war on used games or go completely digital, lower digital prices and make all digital purchases compatiable with new consoles

 

Digital games on console question

right this is another day one console, i have bought 1 in person from my local cash converters, the other from cash generators website, im assuming both these company's have reset both consoles to factory settings as standard policy for their goods, this is the only thing i can come up with, due to the reset, the console believes they've never been downloaded and accessed, im also speculating this can only be done with day 1 digital combo consoles or consoles that come with factory supplied download games, or am i just lucky at the mo and found a loophole to get a few more games?

Unfortunately, those digital games will only be accessible if the console is the "home" console of the account(s) that purchased them. Should the previous owner set their home to any other Xbox One, those games will be locked. It's because of this that
I recommend you do not include digital games in the price of used consoles you buy, because there is no guarantee that you'll be able to play those games in the future.

The user setting that console as their Home does nothing in that regard. The console needs to be the Home Xbox of the GTs that actually own the content, so if those GTs are now being used on other consoles and those consoles are their new Home Xboxes, then
the games are rendered unplayable on the user's console unless the user actually purchases the game digitally or insert a disc for them. In this scenario, the user setting that console as their own Home Xbox simply means that other accounts on that Xbox can
play the games the user owns himself.

Everything else is as Theory says. Except I would add an additional bit about buying/selling consoles with content pre-installed: it would technically violate the CoC/ToU and so isn't just inadvisable, it's bannable.
