  1. Use external drive to play games or not?

    Hello,

I bought my son a new Xbox One X (he has an Xbox One). I backed up his games on an external drive from the old Xbox. Before I install them on the new Xbox I'm wondering if it's better to just play them from the external drive instead of installing them
on the new Xbox. Any thoughts on the pros and cons either way?

    Thanks.

    :)

  2. Xbox one External Hard drive doesnt have offline support

Xbox one External Hard drive doesnt have offline support

Xbox one doesnt support external hard drives offline, the xbox one will recognize it has a external hard drive yes ,and the xbox will format the external hard drives yes, but it will not let you install or play anything offline, only until you connect to
live is when the external hard drive works then it will let you play the games off it, this needs to be fixed microsoft, we need to play are external hard drive games offline to just like the internal hard drive where it dont matter if your online or not to
play games.im not a online gamer microsoft and alot of us dont have internet either but we still want to have a larger drive , so if we dont have internet we cant play or even use the external hard drive, thats not far microsoft, you have the best console
on the planet so please send us a update that gives us the right to play are external games offline to..

    external hard drive options

With the ability hook up two external hard drives. Would it be possible to use one as a media/movie hub? It would be sweet to use the internal drive for soley dvr function, while 1 external drive is used for games, and the 2nd external drive used to store
    bluray/dvd, or digital copy movies...

It really doesn't make a difference either way. I leave all of mine on an external drive in case I need to move them to a new console.

  5. Some people have claimed that if you have a good external HDD with a higher read speed than the internal one (like 7200rpm is faster if I recall?), you will notice [slightly] faster load times. I can't really say on that aspect,
but I also leave all of my games on an external drive. Not only for the reason Smwutches gave, but I just feel more at ease knowing that the internal drive isn't really getting a lot of wear and tear... if internal drive has issues... it's service time for
the console. If the external drive goes, that's just a trip to the store and some re-download time to get me back up and running.

  6. I'm new to forums (I know, time to move into the 21st century) so I hope I'm posting this reply in the correct place. Thanks Smwutches and A Blue Illusion. My thinking is similar, so I think we'll keep our games on the external drive. Here's another question.
Do you backup that external drive in case of a problem?

Personally I haven't. Just because if anything does happen I can just take the time to download everything. But technically you probably could if you wanted to.

I agree. I know that you can either move or copy your game data to another drive and I don't really know if there is a limit to how many times you can copy it. Not that it wouldn't be a good thing to have back-ups if you really wanted to, but with the ability
to re-download the games if something does happen to a HDD, I've never felt the need to.

Maybe if I had enough games to fill a 5TB drive or something and/or a really crappy internet connection that'd take forever to re-download them I'd feel differently.
