USB won't work as Capture location

My 32 GB USB 3.0 flash drive will not work as my capture location despite it working fine 2 days ago. It's formatted properly as NTFS, I've tried many hard resets as well as unplugging the console, I've reformatted it, wiped all the game clips from the drive,
tried multiple USB ports on the xbox. I've tried just about everything I can think of. It works fine on my PC.

I get an error message when I set my capture location to external saying that "storage must be 3.0 or faster. This device is too slow" even though I know that's not the case. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    :)

Deleted screenshots problem needs to be fixed.

Nevermind, I realized I just needed to get a 3.0 USB stick and format it for NTSC and select it as capture location in storage settings (using the 3.0 usb slot in the left side, the one on the back isn't 3.0 and doesn't work for it).

  3. Error 0x80bd003b

I wanted to screen record my new Xbox One X. I just got a Samsung 16 GB USB 3.0. I plugged it into the console. When i navigated to Broadcast & capture in Prefences (in Settings), I set the capture location to 'External'. An error message popped up reading:

    'Try a different device

To capture game clips and screenshots externally, storage must be USB 3.0 or faster. This device is too slow. (0x80bd003b)'

My USB is USB 3.0. I tried searching the error code on the website but there were no results. Please help me.

    Hey IBTG,

Thanks for reaching out to us today! I'd be happy to help.

I would suggest when you hard reset and
    power cycle
that you try another power outlet at home to rule out any power supply issues.

Then, I would recommend to perform a
    soft factory reset.
Select Keep my games and apps and make sure before selecting the reset you have your account login information as you will need to re-add it to the Xbox during set up.

Try that out and let us know the results!

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it.

I did the reset as well as trying a different outlet. Neither worked, so I did the factory reset which didn't work either. It still tells me my device is too slow and gives me error code: 0x80bd003b

    Hey IBTG,

    Thank you for responding.

That sounds like an interesting issue as that error code isn't found on the search database and it seems it could be a technical issue with recognizing the flash drive.

What I can recommend to start ruling some things out is if possible to test out another USB 3.0 flash drive or hard drive that you could possibly borrow, or test your USB flash drive on another Xbox if you have a friend or family member who has an Xbox One.

If you conclude there is an issue with your Xbox then the last resort troubleshooting step would be a full factory reset that will erase everything and you would need to re-download everything.

Since that error code is not found in the database, I recommend to report the issue through the

    Xbox Insider Hub app.

    Let us know the results!

Unfortunately I don't have access to another flash drive or Xbox one. And since the flash drive works fine on my pc but is inconsistent on my xbox (sometimes it isn't even recognized at all and I often end up having to restart it) I'm guessing my console
is just old and worn by now. I understand there isn't much you can do from here so thank you for your help.

    Hey IBTG,

It's our pleasure to try and help in anyway we can.

One last thing I can suggest if you'd still like to save your clips and still technically take them with you everywhere is if you upload those clips to your

    OneDrive
storage. You can access those clips from virtually any device at any time, by going to
Microsoft OneDrive - Access files anywhere. Create docs with free Office Online. or if you are able to download the app and sign into your account.

I hope that suggestion might be of interest to you!

  9. Hi,

It's more likely a failed or failing Flash drive than a faulty console. Flash storage can go bad, it's not invulnerable.

Also, be wary of cheap large capacity drives sold online. Fake drives are never capable of storing what they claim.

Best way to test this is to copy a large file or better yet, a set of large files to it via PC and then test these files on the PC. Just copying a few files to it on PC without issue isn't a good enough test.

I would also you suggest you try another flash drive. Make sure it's legitimate branded drive.
