    USB Sticks/ Hard Drives compatible


    Hello, I recently got this game for my 4GB xbox 30. However, I need 7 GB of free storage to play the game I think. No problems, ran down to the shop and got a Sixteen GB USB stick. Put it in my XBOX and it didn't work, so they want me to get the hard drive.
    But I looked online cause I wanted GTA V and they say that USB sticks should work just fine. What's wrong?

    Can an external hard drive be used with a Xbox 360 slim?

    You can connect a USB hard drive to the 360 but no matter the size of the hard drive you are only going to be able to use 16gb of it as storage for the 360. If you need some extra space then I'd get a compatible USB stick.

    If the game says it requires a hard drive, then it needs an Xbox hard drive. Some games require the hard drive due to system files on the drive.

    Download not compatible

    USB stick will not work either. I downloaded the game to a USB stick but I'm told that I must install an Xbox hard drive. A quick web search says that there are compatibility files installed on the hard drive that allow Xbox Original games to work on the
    360.

    This sounds like you have a hard drive with a corrupted sector. that is why deleting and redownloading the profile does not work as it is downloaded to the same sector on your hard drive.

    As a test remove your hard drive and plug in your usb stick. Attempt to download the profile to the usb stick. If the account is fine on the usb stick then proceed to move your important save files to the usb stick. When you have done that then remove the
    usb stick and format the xbox hard drive. When you load the profile onto the hard drive after the format this should have resolved the issue.

    The internal 4gb of memory in a Slim is flash memory, just like a USB stick, and as so isn't treated as a hard drive would be.

    Sorry to say but you are going to have to buy a hard drive if you want certain features such as backward compatibility.
