    So I have a 1TB external HD. Had it plugged in the side USB port, moved some games to it and downloaded some games to it as well. Everything was working fine. I then repurchased Rocksmith 2014 so I could play on the XBOXONE. I switched the HD to one of the
    rear ports and plugged in the realtime cable into the side port for convenience. This is where the problems began. The system began not recognizing the HD ( WD my passport ultra ) sporadically. Plugged it back into the side port and all was well again. However,
    the realtone cable simply will NOT function in either of the rear USB ports, at all. I have 2 realtone cables and both work fine on the 360 as well as when they are plugged into the side port. So whats up with the rear USB ports?

    Aww.. now, I think I know what you said now. Maybe.

    To get your PC out of a boot loop, remove the battery for like 10 seconds, and put the battery back in.

    My buddy has his play games off of a thumbdrive on 360 (Minecraft), so it's do able. On the thumbdrive, make sure it doesn't have a locking mechanism that is used for Write Protection.

    Sorry to hear that you're having issues with the ports. Please try plugging the hard drive back into a rear port and if you experience the issue again hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down.

    If the issue continues you may need to look into sending the console in for repairs.

    There are three on the back of the console, all in one column. The "fourth" one, above the Ethernet port, is an "Auxiliary port". It's for Kinect.



    There are two on the front of the console behind the trap door.



    This is all detailed in the second page of the
    PDF manual    . There's a paper copy in the box.

    I can see the USB port placement not being a big deal for hardware you do not touch much like a drive but my kids love their Disney infinity and it has the usb unit to place the characters on...which I do not want plugged in all the time. A front USB port
    would be much easier. Of course the headset that comes with the Xbox One is a bigger problem in terms of getting it plugged into the controller...given the number of videos out there that explain how to plug it in and the and the number of people having issues,
    I cannot help but think whomever designed it, never tried the finished design.

    Front USB ports are a great idea for convenience. It's there out in front with quick access. I rarely use my rare USB ports on my Slim 360 console because I have to make the effort to face the back of the console. I might be wrong but last time I checked
    PS4 had only 2 USB ports where as Xbox One has 3. Still, the Slim 360 has FIVE USB ports.
