Usb on connecter cable for an xbox controller not responding with pc

Hi all

I was playing a game through steam on my HP Laptop with windows 10 update and everything with a xbox one controller via usb connection, and for some reason, the computer stopped recognizing the usb connection. It said there was some sort of error and the
usb can't be read anymore? But the last few times I've used this same method, no error message popped up.

So I'm just wondering if there is anyway that I can fix this, and if so how to do that. I've tried reconnecting it with Bluetooth, deleting the controller off the list of connected devices and trying to reconnect it that way but still nothing works. And
this was working fine up until today

So if any one has any information, that would be great

Hi Keith, There are two ways to connect an Xbox controller to a PC: with a USB cable or via Bluetooth.

Connect with a USB cable

Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port on your PC.

Plug the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your Xbox controller.

The controller should automatically connect to your PC.

Connect via Bluetooth

Make sure your Xbox controller and PC have Bluetooth.
Activate Bluetooth on your PC.

Press and hold the pairing button on the Xbox controller for 3 seconds.

The controller should appear in the list of Bluetooth devices on your PC.

Select the Xbox controller from the list and click "Connect."

Thank you for responding but i have another question. So ive got a different xbox controller that connects to my xbox but the controller is almost unusable. It dosent connect to the pc either. Ive tried many different usb c cables aswell

yes you connect Xbox one controller to a Pc, wirelessly or cable, but to play xbox games on ur PC you need to connect controller via micro usb cable.

Yes, you can connect the controller via the USB cable to a PC. The cable sends data as well as power.
You don't need batteries. The USB cable sends power and data, As long as the controller is connected to the USB port on the PC will power the controller.
