    USB hard drive support

I purchased a Toshiba hard drive for my Xbox One. Although the rear USB ports power up the new drive the Xbox One doesn't recognise the drive. It does however work on the USB ports on the side of the machine. Is this the same for other users?

    :)

What hypothetical feature/accessory would you like to see on the Xbox One?

I'd like to see Oculus Rift support, built in recording video/streaming services, and maybe native USB support for something like an external hard drives.

    USB hard drive support

I tried the rear ports with a USB stick drive and it's the same. The machine doesn't recognise the new drive?

The port on the side of the Xbox is a 3.0 slot, the others are only 2.0, and made specifically for an external drive. So as long as it has a 3.0 or better USB cable and is at least 256GB then it should automatically show up when you plug it in the port
    on the left hand side.

Conflicting reports. According to Microsoft all USB ports on xbox one are 3.0, it maybe cause I got a first release they are not. Might phone them tomorrow and ask to get a resolution. Unless I can get confirmation that not all ports are 3.0.

    All three are USB 3.0:

    support.xbox.com/.../usb-port-use

Then again, that page needs to be updated as the first note is now no longer true.

I'm not sure, however, why you would have issues only with the USB ports on the rear.

Guess my training materials were off then. I do think the USB port on the side is wired differently, kinda like with the ports on the 360, which is why when you update your controllers the instructions tell you to use the one on the side,

    support.xbox.com/.../update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter
, so it's probably soldered directly to the mother board unlike the ones in the back. But the system is designed to use up to two external HDD's so it makes sense that you can use the ones
in the back as well. So having that different port work as where the others won't kinda makes sense. In the future though I'd probably go with another brand. I was able to verify my WS will work plugged into the back as well as the side, so the functionality
issue may come from the HDD itself.

Thanks , but issue seems to be the Toshiba drive. Got a refund and put in a western digital drive and there seems to be no issues. Maybe something to do early releases of 3.0 drives.
