    USB flash drive

    Hi all

I am attempting to configure my USB stick to my xbox. It will recognise it but I don't get the option to configure it. Anybody got any ideas why it won't let me configure it?

I have checked the compatibility of the stick and it's good

    :)

Please tell me this is a sick joke

You need a 16 gb USB flash drive. It MUST have sufficient read speed 15mb/s

"This initial install will require an Xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16GB USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space. If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance. "

    I'm buying another Xbox One

You may be able to use a USB flash drive as well.

There isn't really a compatiblity list

The main requirements are over 1gig and usb2 or ready boost

Cheap brands will not likely work even with that you take risks with no name brands

Best options are SanDisk or Kingston's

...Most of what the above poster said is incorrect.

Following a fairly recent update of the way the Xbox 360 handles external storage, you no longer need to configure your drive. Just have your 360 format it, and it's automatically configured. Avoid using Seagate and PNY as your drives because those have
compatibility issues with the 360 (and they're garbage anyway). Also, avoid any no name/store brands, because you never know the quality of parts that they use. I would also avoid using USB Flash drives, and go for an external USB HDD. Flash drives will fail
quickly when using them with a 360.

    USB flash drive

I just wanted to add that if you need to you can also format the external drive on your PC before using it on the console. Sometimes a USB that isn't recognized immediately will be recognized after a format.

Formatting on a PC is not advised. Windows uses optimized settings for...Windows. Cluster size can be changed by Windows to be optimized for performance on Windows. The Xbox 360 is picky about what cluster size it can use. If it's the wrong cluster size,
the Xbox won't even give you the option to format, it'll just outright refuse to show you or recognize your drive. Only use Windows to format it if your 360 can't recognize your drive to begin with. Keep in mind there's a 5-15 second mounting time depending
on how large your drive is.

360 won't recognize USB flash drive.

Hi there, did you configure the flash drive as xbox storage.

    -

    support.xbox.com/.../usb-flash-drive

    -

    Format a USB flash drive

Plug a USB flash drive into a USB port on the front of your console.

Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings and then select System Settings.

    Select Storage or Memory.

    Select USB Storage Device.

Choose either Configure Now or Customise to format the USB flash drive for Xbox content.

Note If the USB flash drive doesn’t have at least 1 GB of space available, the options on this screen are not available. In this case, use a different USB flash drive.

Configure Now: Erases the USB memory stick and configures 32 GB for Xbox storage

Select Configure Now and confirm that you want to erase all data on the USB flash drive.

Customise: Configures a portion of the USB memory stick (up to 32 GB)

    Select Customise.

Move the Reserved Storage slider to select the amount of space you want for Xbox storage.

Note 512 MB is reserved for system use.

    Select Configure.

The console tests your USB flash drive to make sure that it works correctly with the console. If your USB flash drive passes this test, you can use it.

Note If the USB flash drive is rated below the recommended speed, you might experience reduced game performance and quality. To cancel and try another USB flash drive, select Cancel.

Your USB flash drive is ready to use and is listed as a USB Storage Device.

Now you can use your USB flash drive like any other Xbox storage device. For information on how to copy and move content between storage devices, see Copy, move or delete Xbox 360 content. You can only plug two USB flash drives into your Xbox 360 console
    at once.

Note Information stored by your Xbox 360 console on a USB flash drive can’t be viewed or accessed on a computer.
