USB flash drive not working with xbox 360

Alright. I have basically lost data for Halo 3 twice now. I need help.

I have an HP 8 GB flash drive (Exact model link below) formatted correctly on a dell PC to the Windows FAT32 file system. I would like it to work on a 4 GB Xbox 360 Slim. The drive seems to meet Microsoft's minimum requirements (Source below).
When I configure it under Settings > System > Storage > *My USB Drive*, everything appears to work. It told me the amount of memory I had, and let me see in the different folders contained within. I played Halo 3 for about 3 hours, saving on the USB drive,
and nothing seemed wrong. Bedtime came, so I shut the console down. However, as soon as I restart the console the next day, the USB seems to un-configure or something. Any data is unobtainable from the xbox menu. Any games stored on the device do not show
    up under the games tab.

The files are still there when I connect the USB device to my laptop though! After reformatting, I tried again, but all data was unobtainable as soon as the console shuts off.

I hope I can receive a helpful response. Thanks in advance for all help.

    Exact Console I have: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/consoles/systems/Xbox3604GB

Exact USB drive link: HP: Supplies, Accessories, Services & Software

Please tell me this is a sick joke

You need a 16 gb USB flash drive. It MUST have sufficient read speed 15mb/s

"This initial install will require an Xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16GB USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space. If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance. "

    Hmmm...

Did you try a different USB flash drive?

I am currently using an XBOX 360 Sandisk USB Flash Drive with no issues...

Maybe there was a corrupted file in there...

Yeah , I've had this problem too and unfortunately it was a problem with the hardware in the USB flash drive and the only way I was able to resolve the issue is by getting a new flash drive. Good luck with your issue it can be a very aggrivating one, and
also a good way of testing it is to just use a seperate USB Flash drive and repeat the steps save a game, reset your console, then check to see if your savefiles are still their if not then it's possible that you encountered a bug on the Xbox 360 firmware
or, more specifically your Xbox 360 console, and I'm not sure if this would be fixable. Besides that if you can't find your answers you could try using the live chat with Xbox live support I'll post a link for that, they are good people very smart and have
the resources and the information to give you as much help as possible with your issue.

What you will want to do is go to this link and on the options choose

Xbox360> Hardware Issues>Chat with microsoft support or Official Twitter support.

I hope you fix this issue very soon and I hope to see you online with us soon for some Halo 3 fun!

    Hello luisam14

Thank you so very much for posting this up on the Xbox Forums. In regards to transferring game DLC over using a USB drive, I'd like you to take the opportunity to take a look at this

    Xbox 360 storage
    .

It states that you are able to "Store or move up to 16 GB of content with the Xbox 360 USB Flash Drive by SanDisk (preconfigured)."

Alternatively, You can use other USB flash drives to store up to 2 TB of content. Configure these flash drives as memory units to work with the Xbox 360. To learn how to format a USB flash drive for an Xbox 360 console, see the Xbox
    360 USB flash drive support
    article.

Go ahead and give this a shot and let us know if it works out for you!

    Flash drive issues?

It's quite possible that the specific flash drive your using is not fast enough for your XBOX 360. I know you said you've formatted the hard drive, but have you formatted it in the correct format for XBOX 360 to be able to actually pick up on (Windows FAT32
    File System)?

. You could also alternatively try a different USB Flash Drive and see if that works.
