USB External Drive and Internal Drive Question

Hello guys and gals I have a question

I am about to get a new 1TB USB 3.0 external Hard drive and my question is

After I setup my usb external hard drive does the xbox one still use the internal drive ?

I am a little OCD about the life span of hard drives and thought by plugging in an external drive it will not use the internal drive as much if all my data is on the external .

what I would like to know is does the xbox one still use the internal drive just for the OS / Firmware and nothing else if I have a external hooked up and am I correct to think that by keeping all my games and content on an external drive it will help keep
the ware and tare down on the internal drive ?

thanks I know this may sound crazy and I prob have nothing to worry about . just something that I think about

    thanks for any input.

    :)

Multiple USB flash drives on Xbox 360

    Hello everyone.

Today i brought a external Hard drive and i pluged in the console.

The external Hard drive is recognized by the console, however one of my USB flash drive stops working and it dosen´t show in the storage devices list.

When i removed the external Hard drive the USB flash drive works again and it shows in the storage devices list.

    The console has:

    • a internal Hard drive
    • 2 USB flash drive
    • the external Hard drive

My question is how USB devices does the Xbox 360 recognized at once ?

u think they will eventually add 3rd party HDD internal support

I suppose plugging in a usb port is easy, however hitting "eject" and plugging in a new HDD inside is just as easy so that's a complete load of duck poo. Also external drives have a premium over internal drives, also external drives are more likely to burn out than internal drives. Hot swapable would rock and it would be far easier than external, no having to make sure you buy a 3.0 usb drive. Dunno why anyone would say lets not have OPTIONS.

So lets see, pay 50-100 more for external or get a nice cheaper internal.

No brainer, I want a new xbox that offers swapable drives this is 2015 not 2005 which oddly enough offered it just in propriety form.

USB External Drive and Internal Drive Question

Hey Zombie! To answer your question, "yes and no." I know, dumb answer, right? Let me explain. The Xbox One will still have the main SYSTEM files on the internal hard drive, however, you CAN choose to move all game content to the external drive, and set
it so ALL new games and installations go directly to the External. So, technically, while the system will still have its "brains" on the internal drive, you can make it so everything ELSE goes through the External drive.

And NO, you don't sound crazy, don't worry! Long term life of any electronic component is worth worrying about. But, like you said, you are correct in assuming that using the internal drive for ONLY system-related files will lengthen the lifespan of the
drive (much less wear and tear, because it will be being accessed far less.)

    Hope this helps!

    Issue with games

Is the game installed on the internal hard drive or an external USB drive?

If it's on an external drive, try to move the game to the internal drive and vice versa (if you have an USB3 compliant USB hard drive available).

    Does that improve the situation?

How to move(transfer) ALL my content from the existing XBOX ONE(500Gb) to a new XBOX ONE(1TB)?

My suggestion would be to purchase an external HDD drive and move the games from the internal drive to the external drive. The drive has to be USB 3.0.

My xbox do not recognize my hard drive, can someone help me?

Is this about the internal hard drive inside the Xbox, or an external hard drive connected via USB?

Xbox (Beta) app don't download on D drive

Is it an external USB drive?

If it is I had this problem.

I would suggest changing where the xbox app itself is being installed to an internal drive then making the change so that the games themselves are installed to the external USB drive.
