USB Drives not functioning properly after resume from sleep on Xbox Series X

I have several USB drives that I attach one at a time to play various games on my Series X, in addition to the games on my internal storage and my Seagate expansion storage. While internal and expansion always work flawlessly, I've noticed that some 50%
of the time of more, whatever USB drive I have plugged in isn't recognized properly upon resuming from sleep. The games show up in My Games list as though the drive is detected, but they do not launch and do not auto update without me having to unplug/plug-in
again. All of the drives I use are SSDs from various manufacturers and work as intended on my old Xbox One X, so I'm 99.9% certain this is a Series X issue. Anyone else experiencing this?

    :)

Why can I not install game pass games on the USB external hard drive?

Series S/X games cannot be played from a hard drive connected via USB. Series S/X games can only be played from the internal drive or the official expansion cards that attach directly in the back of the console. Again, no USB connected drives can play Series S/X games.

Can you use external hard drives on xbox series s

    Hi,

Series X|S optimised games can only run on either the internal storage or expansion card. You can 'store' Series X|S on a USB hard drive/SSD for later but you can't play them from these drives as they're not fast enough.

Xbox One games that are not optimised for Series X|S can be run from USB Storage.

(solved) Games and Apps not updating with external storage attached

I thought the X had been designed to "only" work with the designated Seagate 1TB drive (the one that costs £250 or whatever it is)
No, not quite. Series X|S games can only run from internal or expansion card, but Xbox One games can still play directly from USB 3.0 mechanical drives or SATA SSD's with USB adaptors.

You can Store Series X games on external USB drives, but you can't run them there.

What's the Best Storage increase for XBOX SERIES X Console

The biggest difference is that if you want to play the Series X/S version of games they must be installed on the internal SSD or the Seagate SSD Expansion card. They cannot be installed on an external USB 3.0 drive, Quick Resume will also not work with any external USB drive. Previous generation games can still be launched from an external drive.

Personally I have the Seagate expansion SSD and prefer the speed and convenience it offers knowing that no matter what I'm installing the best version of the game and able to use all the enhancements that comes from playing on a Series X. It's worth noting that for the price, it's not much more that some of the high performances SSDs available for PC but it is definitely not cheap.

External Media Drive unrecognized after update

It's a small drive that pulls power from whatever source it is connected to via USB. It gives the standard blue light that it is functioning properly and connected via USB 3.0 while attached to the xbox but after a few minutes of getting nothing in return
from the system, it shuts itself down. I've connected it to my Macbook and Dell PC and is recognized by both with no problems. Xbox One seems to be the only anomaly.
