  1. USB drive not recognized by media player app

I have a WD my book Essential 3tb usb3.0 powered external drive with videos and audio files, when I connect it to the Xbox One after a few seconds it tells me the device is ready, but when I turn on the media player app the drive is nowhere to be found.
I go into the settings menu and manage storage sub-menu and the drive is correctly identified, I use the view content option, loads the media player app, but the drive is not found. Any ideas on how to fix this, seems like an app problem.

    :)

External harddrive for media not recognised by Xbox one

My PNY 128gb usb flash drive that was connected to my XBOX One when updated is no longer recognized by my TV's USB Media port either. It is still recognized by all my computers. This is saddening, luckily I have a 16gb Media drive that is still recognized
    by both.

I've tried all types of formatting of the 128gb drive and nothing is working, kinda frustrating really!

Why can't the ONE play the same media files as 360 ???

Open the media player app. When you run the Media Player app, select your external USB drive, and then select the media that you want to play.

I tried everything to fix this, checked the formatting settings one the hard drive etc. But for some reason (after several attempts before) I tried a full reboot on the Xbox -by holding the On button for 10 seconds and restarting- and it worked. However
my old hard drive still isn't showing up. Hopefully this helps anyone else with the same issue.

Hi same problem for me too,

I have several external drives with media, but 2 of them are not recognized by de Xbox One! I tried to remove some hidden files and played a little with the security rights of the drive.

One drive is working now, but 2 still won't work.

These same drives work perfecly in Windows 10 Explorer and on my Smart TV! So i quess my TV is Smart then?

Ok, i found some sort of sollution (Xbox One S):

Turn off your Xbox One by holding down the power button for 10sec.

When turned off, unplug youre USB drive.

Restart the Xbox One and login with youre account

Re-plug the USB drive. Now a pop-ub appears for the Xbox Media App

Go to the media app and you should/might see the USB drive now.

Let me know if it worked

USB drive not recognized by media player app

    So.. me again... april 2017

I think i found a solution. The Xbox One seems to have some issues with hot-plugging external media drives.

The best way is to fully turn the device off! (holding down the power button for 10sec./ or turn it fully off in the config-menu

Then Plug-in all you're media drives you need (max 3-usb)

Restart the device and the Media App will now see all the usb media drives.

When you hot-plug usb-drives the Xbox gets confused and cannot remember what drive was what or where.

It actually needs an update for this...
