    USB drive issue

I have had an Elite 360 for 8 years or so and it has worked great. Lately I have been trying various USB drives to add space with mixed results. I have a SanDisk cruzer 16 GB and an 8 GB that formatted fine although I have not tried to move or copy anything.
Just recently I saw that 360 supported 32 GB so I went to BB and got a couple of the cruzers on sale. Neither on of them will 100% format, I get the "performance may be an issue" message. I have tried different USB slots and gone back and forth between 360
and PC to reformat and retry with the same result. I even tried configuring one of the 32's to only allow 16 and that didn't work either. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

    :)

    Strange Issue With USB Drive

    Hi,

Background, I have an old laptop hard drive connected to the xbox using an external hard drive kit and the consoles usb port. Never had a problem with it and have used it for the last few years.

Today, I encountered a really weird issue. I noticed that when I using the HD cable I purchased for my 360 there were horizontal bars of "static" that moved up the screen slowly. I switched back to the old composite cables that came with the Xbox and the
bars disappeared. I then went back to HD and noticed that the problem only occurred when my external hard drive was connected. I figured perhaps there was some interference happening as a result of the electricity through the cable to the external hard drive
kit. Unplugged the drive, bars disappeared. Plugged it back in and turned the drive off, bars disappeared. Turned the drive back on but unplugged the usb connection, bars gone.

So, in short, when the hard drive is turned on and connected to the xbox, horizontal bars move up the screen. This doesn't happen with any other usb drives, and only happens when using the HDMI cable purchased separately, and this all started today with
    no problems in the past.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the cause of the problem, or any ideas on a solution?

    Thanks in advance.

    USB drive issue

Not all drives have the same read/write speed and sometimes it is difficult to get that information. I have used several SansDisk 32GB Cruzer drives which gave the same warning after formatting, but was able to use them with no issues. Even if you are getting
that warning, the drive should still be usable. Go ahead and try to use them by transferring a game over and playing it. If they don't work, they actually may be too slow to work properly on the 360. I had recently switched over to Lexar drives and they do
not give the same warning as the SansDisk Cruzers did.

FYI, in a coming update the external storage limit is to be increased to allow up to 2TB hard drives to be used on the 360. This is currently being tested by Xbox 360 Preview members and will be available to all users sometime later this year.

Any software used to extract those files besides the xbox itself would be a violation of the ToU. Using outside resources to move, alter or otherwise save files intended to be only on the xbox is what gets accounts banned. The reason why the files are named
as such is for security measures to prevent piracy and tampering with profiles such as gamertags, avatars, gamerscore and tenure. My advise, just reformat the usb drive and redownload any material again under account mgmt and download history.
