here is how to reproduce it. go to walmart and buy an xbox one. install the media player on it. then put any downloaded video(mkv, avi, mp4, ect) on a flash drive or hard drive and play all. just let it play for a while and it will eventually happen. it
may be within a few minutes and it can take over an hour. the xb1 doesn't seem to discriminate against any type or brand of drive. have the drive plugged directly into the xb1. if u stream it from a computer thru an Ethernet cable it won't happen. u must have
the drive plugged directly into the console. let me know if this trick doesn't give u the same problems as it has given all of us misses quinzel.

@ BulkChart32 - you summed it all up in a few sentences and i totally agree with you.

@ Cool Haderz - I agree with you also, this is a console issue if Microsoft are not able to reproduce. Which i actually think is a small lie, as i do not believe there is an investigation team.

@ Misses Quinzel - i reported the issue back in October (i already told you this and it is on the notes of my account with Microsoft) so the team were aware back then. If you are not able to reproduce, then i have a faulty console, thanks for confirming
this, i will now proceed to send this back and get a full refund as Microsoft have acknowledged that this is faulty.

As i mentioned on a previous forum -
    forums.xbox.com/.../1895544.aspx

This is not a device issue, @ BulkChart32 already mentioned to get ANY device and it will happen, this is a console issue and you need to accept this, if you are not accepting this then ask us to send the consoles back and test them out, you will find the
fault....but not once has anyone asked for this yet...WHY?

7months or 2 months, it does not matter if the team who are magically investigating are still asking for more details after 2 months, the point is, they are still asking rather than offering a solution. I think you can tell this is an issue, we have all
experienced this, because you have not, doesn't mean it is not an issue.

From experience, you can check logs or cached logs from a console, so each time the media app fails or crashes, it must log that in the console cache or memory and you can see this when connected to it??????? So the easy option is to ask one person to send
you their console, check out what errors happened and carry out some fault diagnosis and maybe even you will find the issue?

I just wish ALL Xbox One owners raised this as an issue as i actually believe this is an issue for everyone and i notice it more as i use the media app every day for at least 3-5 hours. others are maybe just gamers but if they tested this i think you will
find that you have millions of users having this issue...just not the magical/invisible investigation team who cannot find the issue....seems strange eh?

You also said you gathered enough reports of the issue, so why continue to ask for more reports of the issue?

yeah carbon kidz has a good point. if it is a fault with the xb1 why not get someone to send in their xb1 and test it. then issue a mass recall or extend warranty like was done with the xbox360 red ring of death.

Is everyone who has one someone who bought it the first day or second day... Not neccessaily a day one model but one of the first systems... Maybe there was a bad batch and they can't replicate it due to

It being a random bunch of machines

@Carbon Kidz Slow clap my friend, slow clap. Bravo, Amen, and Hallelujah all wrapped in together from what you are saying here. I was looking into this issue on my phone, ran into this thread, read your posts, then immediately go to my computer, logged
in, all because you are absolutely summing up what I have been saying for like 4 months now. The Xbox One is buggy as hell. I have so many *** issues with thing thing, it's stupid. So the usb drive video playback through the Media Player is like 4th on
my list, but it still drives me bananas. I have a Day One console and my good friend bought one about 6 months ago, he seems to have this issue more than me! I have a "workaround'' though, basically I have my smartglass app usually running while watching
a video through Media Player. WHEN it eventually crashes, load up the movie again, and then tap the "remote" icon on the smartglass app. At the bottom is a small playhead that you can then drag to where you think you were in the movie. Not really a workaround,
but a better quicker way to get back to the spot you were at in the movie. I totally agree Carbon, these issues seem to be falling on deaf ears. I tried using Microsoft twitter support and it was a bunch of bs "try powering down the xbox" crap. Yknow how
many times I have probably done a "hard reset" or "power cycle"???? Too effin many to count/remember. well over 100 times combined. Microsoft released a product, that CLEARLY was not ready, and got themselves paaaaaaaid. Whew.. I'm sorry.. I think I blacked
out there. Oh and I'm using a Kingston 16gb usb 2.0 flash drive formatted to fat32, and it still crashes 15-20-40-60-120 min, it seems to be random.

  6. I've started timing it that every 45 minutes i lose connection while watching a movie. During these 45 minutes I am not using the controller.

WD 1tb 3.0 USB "My Passport". I deselected the XB1 "turn off" power setting option that was recommended by Xbox, but still having the issue twice since doing that tonight.

It's extremely annoying to me when I'm watching by myself, but it's well worse when I'm watching w/ a girl and in the middle of a good or meaningful scene it dies ... she's not happy

Getting this issue swell with a Seagate 1TB Expansion Drive and a Sandisk 32gb USB pen.

Can't even watch a 45min episode without getting the "device is unavailable" error 3 or 4 times.

    Terrible!

Is this happening to everyone or is it only with the first batches of the xbox? is it firmware/software or hardware issue. Would be good to know if its just a case of getting a replacement.

  9. Hey, guys! I really do appreciate the patience and information you all have passed along to me. I did want to let you know that we were able to reproduce this! I don't have any information other than that, but I didn't want to leave you hanging. Once I do
have more information, I will be back in here to update you. For now, though, we don't need any more devices. :3 Thanks again!

  12. While I do know that it has been reproduced, I was not made aware of how. Once it was successful, the investigating teams had reached out to me to let me know. Since I had previously let you guys know that we weren't able to get it, I thought it fair to
let you know we did. usb device unavailable :)

A fix is on the way, however I do not know a time frame. Once I have more information on that, I will be sure to keep you all updated! usb device unavailable :)

Although a small update but at least an update however I think we all knew Microsoft could produce this already and didn't want to say they had. I feel now that as more and more users are experiencing this issue Microsoft felt they had to now tell us something
and with the mysterious and very slow investigation team taking 6-7 months to watch a media file through ANY device, it seems someone finally decided to do this.

I like the 'Microsoft are not taking the blame for this or acknowledging it is actually a Microsoft issue' line you added to say 'For now, though, we don't need any more device', which implies you are still blaming devices and possibly may require more going
forward or at a later date.

I wish you could be honest and just say, this is a Media Player App issue and it is most certainly NOT a device issue unless you mean that every compatible USB, or external hard drive which can be connected to the Console experiences this issue, then sure,
every single manufacturer of devices are to blame.....I wonder if they would like to hear that their devices are being blamed for a fault in which we all know lies with Microsoft.

Strange how every single compatible device work just fine with all PC's, laptops, Xbox 360's, and EVERY other machine that allows USB connections, but just not the Xbox One........very strange!!!!!!!!!

^ That. That right there says it all. I'm tired of being complacent with this" one step forward, two steps back" all in one console. Been having these issues with the media player since the first week with 4 compatible USB External HDs that run great on
everything but this console. I honestly don't care if Microsoft doesn't take responsibility for it. Just get a fix out! P.S. if ur looking for a software engineer that will sit around for months not fix problems hire me, I need a job.

  15. Hey, guys! By saying we don't need any more devices, I mean to say they have found the cause behind it and do not require any further information from users, nothing else. While I would love to provide more information, it is not provided to me. I pass along
the information I am told as soon as I know it. I did not mean to imply anything other than we need no further information from you all.

Once I have more information from the teams looking into this, I will be sure to post in here again for you all!
