USB device unavailable HELP!!!!!

Also having this same issue...trying to watch movies/tv shows etc is an absolute nightmare. I've tried different USB devices, hard restarts etc and nothing works.

Come on, Microsoft.

just finished chatting with xbox support and they want me to send my xbox one back for this issue. looks like no xbox for 2-3 weeks. has me reminiscing when i had to send the 360 back and forth

there is a known issue with ext hdds hibernating when there little activity and it just goes into some kind of power saving mode like hibernating, check if that's the problem, this will happen and any system.

Been having this problem since the introduction of this (admittedly amazing apart the flaw) feature. Please can I recieve the message too?

 

I'm experiencing this issue as well. Just hot a new Western Digital Password 1TB drive. A video will play fine for a hour or so, and then suddenly I get the "USB device not available" error message.

 

I am also having this problem and it's driving me mad. This feature was one of the biggest reasons I bought the xbox one this Christmas, so it makes me extra mad! There's no reason I can see why it does it. It's not just certain files, it's almost all files.
I've tried different drives and different files and it still happens.

One small trick that I've been trying is leaving the controller powered ON (rather than shutting it off after I start a movie). The past two movies I've played have worked just fine doing this, but I haven't tested this method enough to say it is a temporary
fix.

Please fix with an update!

I can confirm it happens all the time, controller on or off and with all hard drives/USB sticks I own.

 

Hey, everyone! Hopping in here to give you all an update!

Can you all toggle the following setting so that it isn't checked anymore?

Settings > Power > "When Xbox is off, turn off storage"

Some drives will perform better when this option is deselected. Please post back your results once you have tried this!

One thing I've noticed in the past few days is that the issue does not occur with MKV files. With MP4 files, it seems to occur about ever 40 minutes. Maybe that'll help MS reproduce the issue.

It's annoying trying to watch a movie or tv show and this error message comes up all the time. Any ETA on fix? I see some people have this problem too.

WD My Passport Ultra 2TB Portable External USB 3.0 Hard Drive with Auto Backup

 

I have this exact same problem. Trying to watch movies on a NTFS formatted USB 32GB stick on xbox. It disconnects itself and becomes unavailable.

At this point it is better to use my netbook w/ HDMI out to watch movies,etc.

This issue and the stereo adapter headset having static and popping noise have made my new experience with the Xbox very unpleasant.

I wish I would have bought a new microwave instead.

 

I am having this exact issue. AND the stereo adapter headset popping/static noise issue. The Xbox One has been such a huge disappointment. Will be selling it soon if these issues aren't fixed by May.

 

Hey, guys! Sorry to see that you are running into this issue as well. Could you give the suggestion I posted above a try and toggle the "turn off storage" setting to not be selected? Post back with your results after you do this!
