Which to buy, the 500gb or 1TB?

To echo blue. Minimum is 3.0 USB. 256GB external HD. And You can use up to 2 5TB external HD. So 10 TB

You should be able to if it is able to connect directly to your Xbox via USB however it seems a bit overkill to use that instead of just a regular external USB 3.0 HDD.

  5. However if your question was if the icy box supports external harddrives to be added into it I think the answer is that it only accepts SATA connections.

But if it transfers the SATA into USB 3.0 you could get a regular internal harddrive, hook it up to that box and then hook the box up to your Xbox which should work

Just to add another point - the icybox uses sata 2 which runs at 3 GB/s whereas USB 3 can run at 5 GB/s. So you should probably look for something that has sata 3 connectors if you want to get something like the icybox.

Personally I have a 2TB Usb3 WD My Passport Ultra. You can get various sizes at different prices and it doesn't require an external power cable.

You should be able to if it is able to connect directly to your Xbox via USB however it seems a bit overkill to use that instead of just a regular external USB 3.0 HDD.

The basic requirements for storing games and apps on an external drive are:

    • Has capacity of 256 GB or more
    • Uses USB 3.0.
Devices that don’t meet these requirements will be treated as media storage, such as for music or video. If you have a storage device that does meet these requirements for game and app storage, you can cancel the format to use it as a media device.

If your console doesn’t recognize your external drive, see
Xbox One console doesn’t detect external storage
    .

If you cancel the format when you connect the storage device, you can still set it up as a storage device later. Here’s how:

    1. Press the Menu button, select Settings, select System, then select
      Manage storage.
    2. Select your storage device, then select Format for games & apps.

    Seagate 2TB Game Drive Issue

To use an external drive for games on the One the entire drive has to be formatted by the One and used exclusively for storing your games.
    For What is worth:

The way I am doing now, is that I keep:

1- internal HD for console fonctions only ( temporary storage )

2- external HD for games and ad-ons only ( permanent storage )

    3- USB key for save-games

I free the infernal HD by transfering anything that I whant to keep on the external HD, so each 3 different storage helps the console
working and playing easier. Also when needed, int-HD and USB key can be removed to permit any repare and actions
that could result data loss on the console.
