USB 3.0 Ext HD - turns on/off/on/off endlessly

She gave an incorrect answer, then locked my post.

That is NOT how the Xbox One console behaves with an external hard drive. Yes, it checks for updates, which is what I want, who wouldn't.

But as I meticulously described, the external HD just keeps turning ON for 8 seconds, then OFF for 4 seconds ......... forever.

That is absolutely NOT how the update checking works.

And Misses Quinzel, I know that Xbox One console is in sleep mode "not really off" when in Instant-On mode. But the Xbox One, and you can confirm this with the console developers at Microsoft, does NOT constantly do a software update check. It is done
periodically, every few hours or so, not every 4-8 seconds.

And I see a trend in the forums as of late where many of the support people are exceedingly quick to give scripted-quickly-judged-and-didn't-even-read-your-post answers, then close the post. Do you really think that as a 9 year Xbox Live veteran, that was
going to assist me the consumer? Or does it help you all quickly make your numbers for the week/month? I get it, you are overwhelmed and over-worked with all the problems with all the issues the X1 has. I sympathize, I really do. Yet, at the end of the
day, I have a software issue with my Xbox One. This is not a hardware issue and my Xbox One does not need to go in for repairs, which you have not suggested yet,
but I wager that is the next response.

I will ask again.

Please read my support forum post in the URL above, that contains and in-depth description of the problem, when it started, how I troubleshooted it and why it is NOT normal. Prior to this starting, my Xbox One simply did not act this way, nor how you erroneously
described the feature. And none of my immediate friends have this issue, even though they have the exact same hard drive model.

So, please, reread my post and escalate my issue to the proper engineering team.

Toshiba External Hard Drive spinning up every 60 seconds

This issue is not limited to Toshiba ext USB drives. I currently have 2 Seagate ext HD connected and they do the same thing when power options set to "Instant-On" AND "Turn off ext HD" is enabled. So far the only successful quick fix I've tried is to switch
off "Instant-On" and use full shutdown. Pain in the ****. Hope MS resolves this issue hastily...

 

Remote Purchases, Ready to Install when i boot up.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

I have connected a 2tb ext drive powered by the xbox USB. Console set to instant on, unchecked power of storage when console turned off.

I can start to download something to ext drive, then turn my console off, and it will continue to download. When finished my ext drive will power off.

However when I purchase something when both are off via smart glass etc it won't start downloading/power up the ext drive. Yet when I turn it on there is the content sat at ready to install.

Frustrating to say the least...

As Misses Quinzel described in the post above, if you do not want your console to do constant checks for updates, you can turn off the function to automatically download updates and purchases. If you have multiple friends with the same hard drive but
are not experiencing the same behavior, I recommend first resetting your console back to factory defaults. You can reset your console by following the steps listed on our How
to reset your console to factory defaults page. I know this step may not be ideal, but a reset would allow us to have a fresh approach to the described behavior. If after performing a reset, you feel that your console is still not operating properly,

I certainly understand your frustration. I am a 7+ year Xbox Live veteran and got no answers from support concerning USB 3.0 HDD not being able to install or move apps to it although the external USB 3.0 is fine with Macs and PCs. The USB 3.0 HDD can be
formatted by XBone for games and apps just fine.

Only some games and apps can be moved to external storage whle others will not which is a high probability to be DRM issues but support have no answers to resolve the issues.
