  1. USB 3.0 Drive... Can I use it to transfer an installed game from one Xbox One console to ...

    Here is my situation:

I have an Xbox One Day One console which works fine except for its disc drive. So, games that are bought digitally will work, but can't install or play any new games with that are on a disc.

I decided to give that one to my 8 year-old son so he can play with his friend in his room, and bought myself a new Xbox One S.

I only found out later that he can't play the games that are already installed on the Day One edition unless my profile is signed in on his console while he's playing it. And if I'm signed in on his, I can't be signed in to my new console or do anything
else on it under my profile at all.

SO...I'm trying to get some cheap games, some of which are duplicates of what I've already purchased digitally under my profile, to buy and install under HIS profile on the old Xbox One again. But most that are cheap or used, come on disc.

To fix the disc drive it's about $125, I think. I don't know if I can get a hold of a USB 3.0 drive for any cheaper than that, but if I do... would it even work to install a game, from disc, to the USB 3.0 drive from my new Xbox One S...THEN take the drive
up to his older Xbox One, and transfer the installed game to his console there?

In a bind and things seem to be getting more expensive by the minute for what seems like it should be a simple fix.

    :)

    Xbox One question.

All games, including disc based, must be installed to the console. However, you can purchase an external hard drive for extra storage space for your games. You can use up to 2 USB 3.0 drives ranging in size from 256GB to 16TB in size.

For example, I have a USB 3.0 1TB drive attached to my console (total storage space 1.5TB) with a lot of games installed. I still have well of 800GB of space left for items.

USB 3 hub expansion for devices

    Hello SandTandpole7943,

There are some USB 3.0 Hubs for the Xbox One. You can use any USB 3.0 Hub that works on a computer for that matter.

An Xbox branded USB 3.0 Hub is the dreamGEAR Xbox One 3.0 USB Hub (although is not an Xbox nor Microsoft product).

If you want an attached-to-the-console 3.0 Hub; you can try the Collective Minds 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure & 3 Front USB 3.0 Ports Media HUB - Xbox One that also lets you put an Internal Hard Drive inside of it.

Both can be bought on Amazon.

  5. Hmm..didn't think of that. Although I wanted mine as Home console because when we've had internet outages I wasn't able to even play single player games on mine without it being set to Home, and it wouldn't let me change the setting until I actually had
the Internet connection back to begin with.

But, like just today he got a Lego Skylanders game as a gift. But it comes on disc. I'm still just trying to figure out how to get a game installed from disc to an Xbox One with a bad disc drive. I can still get games he wants cheaper on disc than through
    digital.

Ah okay. Once you install the games to the hard drive you can move it pretty easily so your idea would work.

  7. Can you be certain? I'd hate to put down money for an expensive hard drive too, and have it not work.

If the disc drive is faulty then you may still have issues even with the game installed on an external drive.

The disc still needs to be read to verify it when you first put the disc into the console.

I've had faulty disc drives that would not play disc copies of games even though they were already installed.

    External Hard Drive

External drives must be at least 256GB and support USB 3.0 on Xbox One. Slower USB 2.0 drives are not supported, ensuring data will transfer very quickly between your console and the drive.

Is it a USB 3.0 drive?

If you connect it to a PC is it recognized there?

    Xbox one hard drive

In theory you can simply plug in the external USB drive from your original Xbox One into one of the Xbox One S' USB ports.

However, if the drive is "fitted" to plug into the side of the original Xbox One's side port (like this enclosure here for example) you would need a
USB 3.0 compliant extension cord. Treat the enclosure like a "regular" external USB drive, and connect the USB plug of the enclosure to the USB extension cord and the extension cord to
    the Xbox One S.

If you don't like this "dirty" solution, you can simply buy another USB3.0 compliant USB hard drive, plug that into the One S, have the console format it as game storage, and then use the

    Network Transfer
to transfer the games from the Xbox One to the Xbox One S via your home network, instead of downloading the games through the Internet.

    ghostplayer8836,

"can i copy xbox one games from one external hard drive to another" Currently, you can only have two copies of a game (well, three if you count the one that's always in the cloud). One copy on your Xbox and one copy on a single USB 3.0 external drive. However,
you should be able to have two external drives plugged into the Xbox and use the Move command to transfer the game/games from one to the other.
