    I have a 500GB Seagate external HD that's USB 2.0. If I get a USB 3.0 male Type A to female Type A adapter will the system let me format the Seagate to format xFat?

    USB 3.0 doubles or triples the real-world sustained transfer rate compared to USB 2.0. My USB 3.0 drives get 40-60MB/sec. My USB 2.0 drives get 20-27MB/sec. My SSDs connected via SATA to USB 3.0 adapters get around 100MB/sec, should you want to go the ridiculously
    expensive route.

    A 2.0 drive should work, but you may want to keep an eye out for USB 3.0 drives during the holiday season sales period.

    If you are asking if you can plug a USB 3.0 device into the Xbox 360, then yes, you can (in most cases).

    Keep in mind that the Xbox 360 only has USB 2.0 ports. USB 3.0 devices typically operate at USB 2.0 speeds when they're connected into USB 2.0 ports.

    Xbox one only support NTFS harddrives, and a USB 2.0 does not support 3.0 the transfer rate is not fast enough.

    3.0 can however be used on a 2.0 port at reduced speed but not vice versa

    Most externals have 2.5" HDDs in them. Just take the HDD out of the USB 2.0 enclosure and put it in a USB 3.0 enclosure. Here is a link to a USB 3.0 enclosure for $20:

    You might be able to find one cheaper but that's the cheapest I found from a quick search. Once you switch cases just format it to NTFS and you'll be good to go.

    A USB 2.0 drive can't be used for storage. You need to use a USB 3.0 drive.

    Is it USB 2.0 or 3.0? The drive needs to be USB 3.0 compatible or it will only be seen as a media drive.
