Usage of Isopropyl 70/91/99 on Controller buttons.

So I’m trying to find out if I should buy 91% or 99% isopropyl alcohol for my controller. Just got a series X and I want to keep the controller that it came with in good condition, but I’m clusmy and spilled some soda on my desk, a couple droplets got on my controller and I used a Onn Screen Wipe to wipe it away thinking it would help but I noticed a small amount of stickiness on the Xbox button on the controller, would using 91% be any worse better than 99%? Is there a huge difference? I’m looking at either spending $10 for 91% or $33 for a gallon of 99%. So just trying to get a better opinion.

    :)

Hi there! This is Ronnie, an independent adviser

Nice to meet you and I hope you are having a great day!

I understand you need help on cleaning your controller.

Actually, it does not really matter for as long as it is 70% higher and what normally is advised is the higher the better.

So in your case, you can use either of the 2 solutions.

    Hope that helps.

Usage of isopropyl alcohol on controller joysticks

    Hello Sraccoon1,

Thank you for your post. Using a higher percentage isopropyl alcohol (71% - 99) on your controller will not damage it. Going lower than 70% runs the risk of damaging your controller with a high amount of water.

    I hope this helps.

To add to DigitalAssasin's reply make sure when you clean it that its Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) preferably 99% but a more common 91% will still work beautifully. Make sure it is completely dry before throwing it back together (it shouldn't take to long it
evaporates very quick). I use this method to clean up rosin flux when i'm done soldering.

    Slippery controller solution

    Solution:

    Get a face cloth

Get isopropyl alcohol used to clean cuts. 70-90%

Dab the alcohol onto the cloth

Wipe down controller with the cloth.

You now have a super grip controller!

I used Isopropyl Alcohol 91% with a large q-tip a week or 2 ago. Don't know where i could get 99%. I got it working again except the dpad. no direction would work on the dpad except left...I opened it up again, tried to clean more and now the dpad left/right
won't work but up/down does. this thing sure is temperamental...
