What's happening when you try to sign in?

Use of a VPN does violate the terms of service, so it would be best not to try to use that anyway.

Im only using a VPN because the normal connection isn't working. Hence this thread.

It says that it is connected to wifi and all services are available when I go into network settings. But none of the live tiles load, the store and community tabs do nothing, and the friends list doesn't update. Essentially its like being offline.

Many Internet sites block access to known VPN technology to prevent the circumvention of their region restrictions so ditch it and use the normal connection.
