They could do what sony did & continue to sell the system even after the new ones released & continue support for awhile, which I think is what would happen, they dropped the xbox in the blink of the eye to focus on the 360, but its more connected then the
xbox ever was so I dont think they will repeat that. Guts wise, for the price it would prob cost to setup MXMs inside these units I think would make it more costly. unless they made some kind of proprietary CPU/GPU Slot & sold it as a combo we could put inside
the system, then again that opens up too many hacking possibilities (hardware wise) I think.

Financially it makes sense to have upgradable parts. When you first buy a PC you basically are buying all the parts at a discount. When you upgrade individual components you are then paying full price and therefore pay more to upgrade each individual component
than you would to just buy a new desktop.

Keeping with the PC metaphor, history has shown that Apple has always created an all in one system that can't be upgraded and users prefer it but that never stopped Dell, IBM, HP, Acer, ASUS, etc., from creating PCs with upgradable parts and then creating
new better PCs every year.

At that I think new components is only half the battle when it comes to graphics, I think part of it is the programming and engine. I have noticed a significant difference between Halo: CE Anniversary and Fable III. In most of Fable III it appears that the
XBOX does last minute renderings of the environment during game play where as that has been a rare occurrence for me in Halo. So no matter how good your graphics card is, if the graphics engine of a game it self sucks, it sucks.

Not gonna happen, nor would it even work. First off, console games are sold "as-is." Every copy of a console game has the same graphics no matter what xbox 360 you have (slim, fat, elite). Having a console w/ more RAM or "doubling up" the CPU won't make
any improvements to a game that was designed to run on a specific set of hardware. Also, you can't just connect via USB to another device to increase RAM or utilitize another computer's (or console's) CPU. It doesn't work this way. Sure, they can use USB
to add storage space, but the current 360 does this already using flash drives and what not. Lastly, i'll point to history. Every console that has ever existed has gotten pushed aside for the latest/greatest version of a company's console. It makes no sense
from a monetary standpoint for a company to continue pushing an older model.

p.s. I still have my old NES & Super Nintendo and love those systems... so the older ones don't always go to waste.

no. i dont think its a good idea. upgrading existing used consoles will cost more than produce the new generation units in china.

I strongly believe trading older models of consoles with the new generation of consoles would be better for consumers.

Problem with this idea is game engine development thrives on the stability of the hardware and the systems are sold at a loss for several years. When you have been making the same design long enough prices come down and they can finally start making a profit
off each console sold. Even if the console can be repurpsed it makes MS no money to push older hardware. The hardware in the next Xbox will surpass the 360 by so much it would almost be worthless. Reason you don't see PC hardware where you can run Graphics
cards or CPUs in tandem that aren't in the same generation. The performance gain is so small they don't waste their efforts trying to do it.

Example of this is the XBMC. A lot of people took the original Xbox and put XBMC free OS on their Xbox to give it the abilities of a semi decent HTPC. MS could have done the same, but it would have detracted attention and resources from the 360 and the sale
of Windows Media Center Edition.
