UPnP Woes

From your reply below I think there might be an issue with your router. If you perhaps have a spare router, I would suggest testing it.

Also, check if your router software/firmware does not perhaps need an update?

I am not sure what it is...my xbox occasionally has to be taken offline then back online to get re-connected..and that it affects my notebook as well and that often has to be re-connected too...BUT having said that I bought a $5.00 CAT5e cable and my xbox
immediately got connected to xbox live...

I am happy with that and am able to make do...

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

It may be that the router is having issues. You can try powering it off for a couple of minutes too.
