UPnP Port-restricted NAT

I would greatly appreciate any info on this problem. I've already tried to open all the ports in my router. The consoles IP is static and yes I have checked to make sure the ports are entered correctly. Is it that the Xbox is having an issue opening the
ports? Or is there something I can do to the UPnP to fix this? I've been on a Moderate connection on Xbox One for a really long time. I've only ever seen and Open NAT on my console on very random and extremely rare occasions.

I've been searching the internet for solutions and I can't find a single one that clearly states what I need to do or come up with any useful solutions other than "Have you tried restarting the console/router/modem?" Because YES, I have done all of that and
it's really getting to me now that it's becoming more of an issue with most games I've been playing lately.

Once again, I appreciate ANY other useful info on this issue. Thanks!

:)

Port forwarding question

I have discovered why my X1 reports a Strict or Moderate NAT sometimes and it's after one of the 360s uses one of the ports the X1 needs. As soon as a Live port is used for a 360 via UPnP, 3074 for example, the X1 drops to Strict.

This is exactly the reason why I use UPnP, because if 360 1 is using 3074, UPnP will map 360 2 to a different port number that grants the same access as 3074 allowing both to communicate with the Live service at the same time, thus granting an Open NAT to all connected 360s. The X1 is not triggering port forwarding via UPnP to utilise this feature, so is the device that suffers when a 360 is in use.

The PS3 used to have a UPnP enable/disable option on the console itself, which I thought was odd, but perhaps if the 360 had this, enabling it would tell the console to use UPnP, which once it uses UPnP to trigger the ports I'm sure it will resolve the multiple device issue.

For reference:

• When I have an Open NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a cone NAT
• When I have a Moderate NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a port-restricted NAT
• When I have a Strict NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a port-preserving port-symmetric NAT

I had this problem when my modem went down and the provider replaced it with one of those combo devices (I have my own router). Before the tech left I asked him it was in bridge mode and he told me it was but I had a moderate NAT. I called support and
the tech reviewed the setting on the combo device and found one setting in it that was still set incorrectly. He made that change and now I always have an open NAT.

I live in the U.S

Modem brand & model number: BEC 8800N

Router brand & model number: Netgear Nighthawk R7000

How many Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles are connected to this router?: One console, as indicated.

Wired or Wireless (for each console): Wired

I have tried resetting the appropriate components: Modem, Router, Console to no avail. Using a port checker to see the ports I've tried to forwarded are opened (they don't seem to be open). Opening the ports have been a bit of a struggle. At the moment of
this post, I switched a NAT setting in the WAN setup from Secured to Open. This has changed my Xbox's detailed NAT information to "Your network is behind a port-restricted NAT".

Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/No/Unknown: Of course, it's enabled.

Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type?: As I stated, Moderate.

Any Error Codes you encounter: No

Who is your ISP? (Internet Service Provider): Local ISP (My city has it's own ISP)

Hopefully this helps. Thanks for the reply!
Modem brand & model number: BEC 8800N

Router brand & model number: Netgear Nighthawk R7000
If you haven't already, you need to phone your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and ask them to configure your BEC 8800N device into
bridge mode. That is if they are able to provide you with this option.

This mode will cause your BEC 8800N to operate as standard modem, which make it incapable of making any decisions that include routing and NAT, which should be kept only, and only, to your Netgear R7000.

Let us know how that goes.

Your Xbox One is not responsible for forwarding network ports for any service that it may have running. That's a job for your firewall to accomplish.

The ISP is local and it's a Saturday. Tech support is already off for the day it seems. Also, I'm not sure what you're saying? I know that the Xbox isn't going to forward ports. I said that I'm trying to open the ports for Xbox Live and they aren't open.

9. Your using 2 routers , the BEC 8800N and the nighthawk ....double nat , either have to bridge the BEC 8800N or hook the xbox to it instead of the nighthawk....you might be able to bridge it yourself if you want to look through this guide....

Bimnog & taidara are correct the BEC 8800N is also a router/modem combo. I use that exact router and if you will make sure it is fully updated and UPnP is enabled it will handle everything great but you do have to get the other device configured for bridge
mode. ALL routing capabilities will have to be disabled in the BEC 8800N.

If you can't get in configured then as Bimnog suggested you might connect the XBOX in the port the Nighthawk is currently connected to see if you can get an open NAT.

Keep us updated. Good Luck!

These specific ports are "open" in that sense, they're are not blocked by your firewall. Don't mind that sniffer of yours, as there're no services on your network listening on those ports.

Just to clarify if you get everything configured properly then you will not need to forward the ports. The Nighthawk will handle that for you with UPnP. Good Luck!

UPnP Port-restricted NAT

Well, I really do appreciate all the helpful info I'm getting here, I don't mean that sarcastically, I seriously appreciate it all. I've been doing more on my part to try to get into the BEC router (finally confirmed that it is a router/modem). I tried connecting
a laptop directly to the BEC device; although I couldn't figure out how to log into the thing. Is there some other way to getting into it?

At any rate, I do have an option to bridge a connection from the Nighthawk but I'm not 100% how that works. To be honest, I'm working with what I know and if anyone can help me understand how to do this step by step, I would be happy to figure this out.
Whatever it is I can do on my end without relying on the ISP for the time being, I will do. Just need the guidance.

Once again, thank you all so much for helping me.

I forgot to add one more tidbit. The BEC router is way out of reach for my Xbox to connect to with a wired connection and the wireless capabilities seem to not be working on the BEC device. So if any other solution involves connecting to the BEC router itself,
I'm afraid I cannot do. All the networking is through the Nighthawk.

The "bridge" option on your Nighthawk is part of something called WDS (Wireless Distribution System). This will create a wireless bridge to provide both coverage and wireless backhaul for areas where it is not possible to provide clients with an Ethernet (wired)
solution. The "bridge" mode add an additional layer (layer 2) of intelligence, as it also keep track of MAC-addresses in its MAC-, or CAM (Content Addressable Memory) table.
