UPnP Port Reservation

If you are experiencing NAT issues, I will leave you a few steps you can try to address the issue:

1. If you have manually set port reservations on your router, it's possible that there may be a conflict with UPnP. Try disabling any port forwarding or port triggering configurations on your router and rely solely on UPnP for managing the network connections of your Xbox consoles.

2. Ensure that your router supports UPnP and that it is enabled. Some routers may have UPnP disabled by default, so you may need to access your router's settings and enable it. Refer to your router's documentation or contact your router manufacturer for specific instructions on enabling UPnP.

3. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your router. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause issues with UPnP and NAT. Updating your router's firmware to the latest version may help resolve compatibility issues and improve network connectivity.

4. Assign static IP addresses to each Xbox console on your network. This ensures that each console has a unique IP address and can help eliminate conflicts. Refer to your router's documentation or support resources for instructions on assigning static IP addresses.

5. Perform a complete power cycle of your network devices. Turn off your Xbox consoles, router, and modem. Wait for a few minutes, then power them back on in the following order: modem, router, and Xbox consoles. This can help refresh the network connections and re-establish proper UPnP communication.

There are various ways to achieve the same thing on a router in terms of NAT and many ways to over configure it.

I would only ever use one of the set-ups below:-

• UPnP=On, Port triggering=Off, Port Forwarding=off, DMZ=Off, Xbox IP address = auto
  
• UPnP=Off, Port triggering=On, Port Forwarding=off, DMZ=Off, Xbox IP address = auto
  
• UPnP=Off, Port triggering=Off, Port Forwarding=On, DMZ=Off, Xbox IP address = manual/static (or auto using DHCP reservation)
  
• UPnP=Off, Port triggering=Off, Port Forwarding=Off, DMZ=On, Xbox IP address = manual/static (or auto using DHCP reservation)
  

If you mix and match the above together it can result in disconnections

Have you actually tried UPnP?

If you use address reservation in the netgear to get it to always give the xbox then same IP address then enable UPnP I don't see why it shouldn't work.

I could only get and open NAT in my router after setting up address reservation. Without address reservation I get a strict NAT.

My router isn't netgear though but I don't use port forwarding or DMZ. I just use address reservation and UPnP.

With my router and its firmware I'm able to connect multiple 360s at the same time all with an Open NAT, whether they get their IP from DHCP or it's reserved, UPnP sorts it out.



I cannot consistently get an Open NAT on the X1 via DHCP, reserved IP, DMZ or anything else. Usually it's Strict or Moderate.



I have also noticed that there are no ports assigned to my X1's IP in the UPnP table, so why isn't it triggering UPnP port forwarding when the 360 does.

PJ2 - With the new DNS settings on your console are you still getting the same ICMP error? At this moment, how is the router configured (e.g. UPnP enabled with no Port Forwarding and DMZ or Port Forwarding with UPnP disabled and no DMZ)? Have you removed
the Xbox from DHCP reservation list on your router?
