  1. Uploading Game Footage to Youtube

Ok so we'v all heard of gamers that have uploaded their videos to Youtube and have made loads of money from doing so. Playing your games, recording them and then uploading them to Youtube sound easy but is it that easy and what are you allowed to do. Ok
so this is a subject that I have researched for a while now and have done my best to get as much information from all parties involved when we upload our videos to a public website such as Youtube.

Firstly when you create your Youtube account you will have to agree to Youtube's terms of service which will include a bit about copyright. This is the main bit you need to understand before you upload any of your videos. Copyright is a law that safeguards
the creator of an original works granting them exclusive rights to all their content.

So can you upload your videos?

Well I contacted Microsoft to see what they have to say about this as the point of the Game DVR is to create videos of you playing games and then share them with your friends and the gaming community and this was their agents reply: I
have checked on it for you and you can definitely share your videos from upload studios on youtube.

Ok so Microsoft say its ok to upload onto Youtube but what are your rights?

The copyrights of the video, If you recorded it belong to you. However if you have recorded game footage within the video e.g. a lets play video then you do not own the video footage. This copyright belongs to the game
developer/publisher and any other third party such as music producers or actors. So by uploading your game footage you could be infringing copyright. This has resulted in some Youtuber's having their videos removed and a copyright strike notice being applied
    to their Youtube accounts.

So what can you do. Basically without the permission of the developers/publishers their is nothing you can do as they own the copyright to all game footage within your videos. However by doing a little online research
you can find what some developers/publishers will allow.

Rockstar Games the publishers of GTA gave this statement:

We're happy for fans to upload footage of their gameplay," it continued, "we love seeing machinima from our games and even share some of it with our fans on the Rockstar Newswire from time to time. We do have just a few guidelines that we ask you to follow
if you are going to post or stream on video sharing sites.

"To make our position on this subject easier to understand, we have put together a list of content that, if posted, would result in a take-down notice:

    • "Pre-Release Footage: No pre-release leaked footage of any kind: Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes "early unboxing"
      videos.
    • Spoilers: Posting video showing the ending of the game, pure cutscenes or any other big reveal in the story. It's ok to show cutscenes as part of a larger play-through (or in a narrated ‘Let’s Play’ type video) but isolated videos of the game's cinematics
will be removed. If you are unsure if what you want to post is considered a spoiler, please contact *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. *** and describe exactly what scene you are wondering about and in what context the scene would appear.
    • In-game Entertainment: Things like the TV shows and comedy performances in Grand Theft Auto IV, or the silent movies in Red Dead Redemption. We prefer fans to experience these in the context of the game's world, so any posting of these in isolation will
      be flagged for removal."
Rockstar also says that it "reserves the right to remove content we find objectionable on a case by case basis & to change our policy from time to time but we do promise that if there is anything we do change we will make sure to let you know."

Anyone affected by the policy can contact Take-Two at *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***.

EA also refer you to contact their advertising and promotions team: *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***.

So with this being said, how do so many people upload their videos without any issues. Some gaming networks will allow you to enlist with them such as machinima. These companies have been granted permission to post footage of video games but again check
with them what footage you are allowed to upload e.g. gameplay without commentary. These companies will also only allow you to enlist once your channel has gained some recognition.

In most cases game developers will not have an issue with you uploading your gameplay videos as long as it is gameplay of you and does not include any spoilers or hidden content, however if you want to Monetize your videos you will need to get the permission
    of the game publishers first.

So here are some tips when uploading your footage:

    • Only show your gameplay, your commentary
    • Turn off background music owned by third parties
    • Give credit to the publishers
    • Do'not claim rights to the footage
    • Do'not Monetize your videos without permission
This information is based on research and should not be taken as me giving you permission to upload any of your videos. If you are unsure then you should seek advice from the publisher before uploading to any public website.

    :)

The best way I have found to troubleshoot uploading from the Xbox one to YouTube is by uploading game content to OneDrive and sharing to YouTube from OneDrive. Is there a more direct way of doing this?

How do i change it so i can upload in standard defininton on youtube?[/quote]

You would have to use a video converter program to make a new video from your HD video. I use
Freemake to convert videos to different formats, it's also 100% free. Then you can take your 720p video (1280x720) into a 480p video (720x480).

Thanks for the info! It's appreciated, but will probably not be necessary, since most people (especially here) probably will not try to start their own video series on account of how hard it is and how unlikely it is that they'll actually become popular
at all or be financially successful in such a saturated market.

  5. Yeah I was worried about uploading anything, even my own gameplay after seeing on YouTube the issues some people were having but I thought I'd put up a post just in case anyone else was worried about it too. Thanks for the reply

If anyone is actually going to try and make a living off of uploading video games to YouTube, you shouldn't be using the Upload Studio to do so. These people make a living, not because of how they play, but who they are. Most of them are funny, or so people
tell me. You'd really need to buy a capture card, a decent/good microphone, and utilize computer software to edit your footage. I've said this a few times, but there is nothing more annoying than a person using a headset as their mic. You'd be amazed what
a $10 pop filter will do.

  7. I wasn't talking about only making money I was talking about uploading game footage in general. Some people have reported to of had their game footage taken down regardless of weather they were trying to make money from it. This was just a recommendation
on what to do. No biggie.

    Uploading Game Footage to Youtube

    Hey everyone XD.

I got a Hauppauge HD PVR2 January last year and I love the thing. Yes thousands and millions more are going through with sharing gameplay footage on Youtube and other media. Google owns Youtube and much of their terms of use is usually just common sense
a kid with a brain would know the gist of it. Some of my videos did get copyright claim mainly because of in game music. You do have legal rights to share stuff, but you should give credit to the owners, especially if their's music in it (especially in Forza
Horizon 2 and Square Enix games). And avoid showing long cutscenes as owners may claim it's theirs. But your =actual gameplay= is footage you kind of created. Also avoid swearing and screaming. I share Minecraft, Halo, COD BO2, Forza Horizon 2 videos (I mute
the music), gameplay with a couple of videos with my friends playing and us chatting and playing. I do-not monitize though and don't run adds in my videos. I don't do videos to earn money. I do videos because I want to and for fun. Some peps are really popular,
some are just in it for the fun of it, some want to be professional, well others casual.

My PVR comes with Arcsoft Showbiz 3.5 and Hauppauge Capture. But last month I decided to use DVDVideoSoft because Showbiz 3.5 uploads in 720p max resolution and you can't upload longer than 15 minute videos using Archsoft Showbiz 3.5 (and it has terrible
frame rate compared to DVDVideosoft. Avoid pasting vids to Youtube Upload's site, as doing it that way will take at least 2x or more longer. Good thing we upgraded from ADSL to Fibre Cable. 10mb/s upload speed is soooooo much quicker than ADSL speeds which
struggle with even maintaining 0.9mb/s upload speed at best! Some of my friends are younger than 13 and they even have their own YT channel. My favourite Youtuber is lewis blogs, hes fun and I love British accents and he plays the games I love.

I prefer using my Hauppauge HD PVR2. Even though I have an Xbox 1 Kinect, with my PVR, there is no time limit on how long I make recordings, and it records videos of everything on the screen, in 1080p with everything in it, graphics, gameplay music, and
it records game and party Chat too. Most of the videos I've seen which uses the DVR or upload thingy which Xbox 1 consoles have.... many of the clips are really short with no audible game chatter from others.... just gameplay, and to me that seems a bit boring.
My Hauppauge uses HDMI connection. Microsoft hasn't encrypted it for games on Xbox 1 and Xbox 360. I know Sony does for PS3 so they have to use component cables. But it is encrypted if you play any DVD/Blu-ray movies because it's illegal to do that kind of
thing (pirating). But sharing actual gameplay with just you or you and your friends, while giving credit to the music owners and cutscene owners, and especially if you do it for fun and not money, you should be fine. But be cautious, some music owners which
license music for games are much more stricter with copyright. I got my PVR for NZ$286.20 (RRP in NZ is $299).

I should also mention that you can still get a copyright claim on your videos even if you don't monetize them.
