The only way i was able to upload custom gamerpics was through the xbox app before the update. The support page you linked doesnt tell me anything about the newest version of the xbox app or where to find the option on the app, its only telling me how
to change it through just the console and I dont have a computer so I cant upload custom pics with the USB method thats why I need to know how to do it on the xbox app again.

The following is for Xbox on console

At your Xbox's home screen, press the Xbox button to launch the guide.

• Use the Right Bumper to swipe to the options for Profile & system and select your Xbox profile.
  
• Select My profile from the displayed options, and an overview of your Xbox profile should appear.
  
• Select Customize profile and then Change gamerpic.
  
• Navigate to the Change gamerpic options, using the steps above for changing your gamerpic.
  
• Select Upload a custom image.
  
• Your Xbox will then read the external USB device and display its PNG and JPG files.
  
• Pick the image you want and hit Upload.
  

If you are on PC, then this part is for you: (Use Xbox Console Companion for this)

• Launch the app and select your gamerpic icon at the top right of the app to open the Profile tab.
  
• Hit customize, then hit your current profile picture.
  
• Click Choose a custom picture once the popup opened.
  
• Locate the file and open it, hit next, then hit Submit.
  
  And your done!

Thanks for get back to us. I'm sorry to hear the issue is persisting when trying to upload your own picture on your Xbox App. I struggled a bit myself when trying to customize my gamer pic with my own picture. The way I was able to get the Xbox app to give
me the option to upload my own image and allowed me to do it was through the Xbox App on my phone.

If you're able to I would suggest to install the Xbox App on you phone and sign in and try to customize your gamer picture through there.

Follow these steps:

1. Select Sign in, choose your profile, then select My profile.
   
2. Select Customize profile > Change gamerpic. (You’ll need to select
   Switch to gamerpic first if you’re replacing your avatar with a custom image.)
   
3. Select Upload a custom image and choose one to use from your connected device or OneDrive.
   
4. Select Upload.
