Upgrading to a one x

I'm looking at upgrading from my original xbox one to a one x, but before I do I have some questions.

Firstly, Can I connect my external hard drive from my current console to the new one x and all my old storage be accessible or will I have to format it for the new console? I suspect a format will be needed. In which case is there
a way to copy the game files to the new console or will I need to install/download them all again? Also, what about my game saves, are they all cloud saved now? will I still be able to keep them?

Secondly, will the game files use more storage on the new console because of the 4K compatibility or will they be the same file sizes that my current console has? I think the current console has the 4K compatible games installed
but obviously can't play them at 4K.

The Xbox Rewards program has never had any offers for purchasing or upgrading to a One X.

Just pop your drive into the new console and there's nothing else you'll have to do. All One's work the same so there's no need to reformat. Your game saves are stored on the cloud so they will just need to resync when you start a game.

If you have already set up your games to download the patches for enhanced games, then the sizes will be the same. Otherwise, they will need more space.

To be clear, did you buy a One S or a Series S? Does it have a disc drive?

You shouldn’t get any upgrade prompts on a One S, X/S games will not run on a One S, if you upgraded the game to the X/S version, so if you have One S, you should decline upgrades

If you want you can upgrade to S or to X but it's not nessesary. Although i upgraded my first xbox one to S back in the time and now on Black Friday i upgraded to X so it's depend on the person i think.

Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

As an example...

I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.
