Upgrading from Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate

"We've detailed this before, but it's still possible to stockpile Xbox
Live Gold service (up to 36 months) and convert it to Game Pass Ultimate for just that dollar extra, thanks to Microsoft's prepaid conversion policy" Can anyone confirm this statement is still true? The way I understand
it is you can buy 3 years (36 months) of Xbox Live gold for $180 bucks and upgrade to Game Pass Ultimate for the additional dollar, and you will recieve Game Pass Ultimate for the remaining 36 months of the gold membership. Essentially getting Xbox Live Gold/Game
Pass Ultimate for a total of $181 over 3 years.
