Upgraded to Xbox One S now surround sound no longer works (0x80bd0009)

So oddly enough, I had this issue with mine this morning. I had to keep clicking around the settings and once I went back into my tv and re-selected the audio passthrough setting to auto, the X1s allowed me to select bitstream and then what I wanted. I wonder
if it is just something odd going on. BTW I have the Vizio P and I am currently using ARC for audio.

This is not an issue to the TV. This needs to be corrected by Microsoft.

Derek, this is an issue with the way the TV is communicating what speakers it has to the console, which is what the EDID signal is. This is not something Microsoft can resolve because we do not have control over what signals the TV sends out. You will need
to work with Samsung to find out the settings that need to be changed to have the TV communicate that it's hooked up to more speakers than just its two speaker system.

The reason why this worked with the Xbox One original console is because of the HDMI ports. The Xbox One S has been upgraded to have more strict requirements, and before the original consoles ignored the signal the TV was sending. Now it cannot, and the
only way to change this is by settings in the TV.

Spoopy had to essentially hack his TV in order to make this work. Only Samsung can help you out with doing that, we will be unable to assist with it. We can help you understand what you need to say to them, though, to get them to look into this further.
From what I can tell, it's easier to resolve this on Vizio TVs than Samsung TVs, but I do not know the full specifications to get this to work. You are free to post back the model number of your Samsung and I can see if I can further assist with pointing you
in the right direction, however I will still refer you to them for the best assistance.

here is my info. I've spent at least 5 hours or so over the phone with Samsung to resolve this issue. they tell me its my sound bar, which it is not. here is my info below. Also I can set my TV to bitstream 5.1, but the audio lag cannot be adjusted to sync.
    I cannot use 5.1 uncompressed.

TV Model and Brand: Samsung UN60JS8000 (2016 model)

Soundbar Model and Brand: Samsung HWK550ZA 3.1 Channel with added optional 2 wireless speakers (5.1 surround)

Exactly how you have your set up right now: Xbox One S to HDMI 1 on TV and ARC HDMI 3 from TV to Sound bar

I'm having the same nonsense occurring.

    2016 Vizio P-75c1

Optical out of TV to Sony Surround Sound Amp

HDMI into TV from Xbox and every other device

It really has nothing to do with the myriad of soundbars and amps ppl are using.

I found a workaround for anyone that can use this setup.

I have my Xbox One S setup with HDMI out to the TV and an optical cable out to my Turtle Beach X41 Wireless Transmitter. I then used the optical out on that to go to my Sony Receiver and now Dolby Digital 5.1 is working.

I set optical audio to Bistream out, HDMI audio to off and Bitsream Format to Dolby Digital.

how is this answered???....optical cable will not give you an uncompressed audio signal. for any system that is made in 2016. why in the world would it not be able to do a pure audio signal?..microsoft still needs to fix this

  9. As stated, corey, this is not an issue with the console itself. This is an issue with the signals that the TV is sending, and the fact that the Xbox One S is designed to not ignore these signals like the original Xbox One was. This question is answered by
the original poster, Spoopy, who answered his own question, resolved his issue, and verified his post with how he did it. You can see a more detailed post on what is happening in my post above.

We cannot assist with other devices, especially when it comes to messing with the firmware with third party means like Spoopy had to do. The console is working as intended, and you will need to work with your TV manufacturer.

  10. wouldn't it be better for xbox to update the device to go back to ignoring the signal? Xbox is not supporting DTS HD or Dolby HD. which is technology that has been around for years. it would make more sense for the xbox to go back to ignoring the signal
instead of us the consumers having to work with each individual tv and change firmware settings. I'm sorry but Its not our fault that xbox still doesn't support dolby hd and dts hd. THIS XBOX ONE S IS SUPPOSE TO BE AN UPGRADE. not downward progress. Once again
Microsoft has taken something away from a system that was already there. i don't mean to be rude. but this is highly frustrating when a consumer thinks they are upgrading and it makes things worse. we went thru this originally when upgrading from 360 to xbox
one and music streaming was not there. please voice our concern.

  11. I can assure you that the concern has been raised, and this is what we have been told. I have worked with the men that Spoopy has mentioned earlier in this thread to make sure I fully understand the issue at hand. This cannot be reversed because the technology
to use 4K is more strict than regular HD, and this can only be changed once the requirements for the technology is changed.

Dolby HD is supported via hardware upgrades, and the reason why the Xbox One S is not supporting that is because in order to keep up with that technology, the hardware would also need to be upgraded in the console. Instead, we went the route of HDR, which
is basically "open source" Ultra HD, as this is upgraded via firmware instead.

Because the original poster has already resolved his issue with a remote capable of changing the settings in his TV, and because there is nothing on the side of Xbox that we can do to make this work, this thread will now be locked. If anyone has any other
support issues that they would like assistance with, please feel encouraged to post up a new detailed thread so that our community can work on helping you out. Thanks for understanding!

Hey, coreyt! In order to look into this, I need the information above. Without this information, the investigating teams will be unable to test items and dig into what they need to. If you could, please post back with all that information so that I can get
it to the right people. Thanks for understanding!

Alright, guys. Looks like we want to dig into this. I need a ton of information, I'm going to post the same thing in the reddit thread you linked to, and we're going to get it to the right people to find out what's happening.

I know some of this information is posted, but I wanted to have it a bit more organized so that I can gather it easier.

    • TV Model and Brand
    • Soundbar Model and Brand
    • Exactly how you have your set up right now (example: Xbox plugged into TV with HDMI cable, Soundbar plugged into TV with HDMI cable, optical cable plugged in from Xbox to Soundbar)
    • Screenshots of what your Audio Output settings look like; I will need what options you have, and then a screenshot of the error once you select whatever option (you will need to upload these to a file sharing site of your choice and then
post the links back here for me)
Once I have all of this information, I will get it handed off to others that can dig into this and investigate what's going on. I appreciate everyone's assistance trying to nail this down. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this once the right people
    have eyes on it! :)
