    Upgrade to Xbox One X required a re-download of most games


    I have many dozens of games stored on my external hard disks, and seemingly transferred them all from my Xbox One to my Xbox One X system without issue by simply moving the disks to the new system. Things were great!

    UNTIL, I tried to run some of the games I haven't used in awhile. The games are listed as downloaded, but attempts to run them directs me to the game store page directly with only the "Play" button active. This "Play" button just
    redirects me back to the store page again. In the "Games and Apps" section the games appear installed, but in the "Manage" game section, there are no entries anywhere. The issue appears to impact about 50% of the games, but not all of them. None of the Xbox
    One Enhanced games appeared to be impacted. I went through the recommended process of installing the Xbox One X content to the disks before I received one.

    The only workaround I found is to uninstall and reinstall each individual game on the new Xbox One X system.

    Huge pain! I'm about 30% done...

    Besides the graphic difference, cangames labeled xbox1 enhanced, still play on the regular xbox 1 s

    It is only with the Xbox One X that the enhanced game makes any difference, when you install the game onto your console, the One X just downloads the extra content required for 4K graphics.

    The standard Xbox One and One S will not download the extra content as it is not required.

    Do you have to re-download a game to play on xb onex?

    so I just bought the Xbox one x. To my understanding, the games increase in download to hdd size significantly. I set up my Xbox one x and it asked me to upgrade to hdr for ww2...it only was a 10gb upgrade. Here is my question..

    Do i have to pop in the disc of new games like Forza and ww2 to get her?

    Can I just pop in the disc from my outside hard drive?

    I plug in my hard drive from old Xbox one in hopes that those games get transferred. However they just play right away...will the games get to be 4k or do I have to download it on the one x

    I don't have it game pass ultimate subscription and I cant play games digitally what I should do with xbox one s?

    Upgrading from xbox one to series x it the best option because most new games what are coming out are playable only on the series x and are not available to play on the xbox one.

    Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

    You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

    As an example...

    I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

    Fruit Ninja full version on my profile, but demo-only on the kids' profiles??

    As "Hassassinade: has suggested try re-downloading the full game, which can be accessed in download history. If your problem continues to happen it is most likely your kids account is a "child's account" and is not able to access the full game.

    One way is to upgrade there account to "adult account"

    Hi Peter,

    It's likely that your SSD does not meet the minimum speed requirements for the Xbox One X. You may try upgrading to a faster SSD that meets the minimum requirements.
