Updating Xbox Live account

It usually says authenticator error like this one

We were unable to sign you in with your Xbox Live account. Please visit xbox.com and sign in to verify/update your Xbox Live account. This error usually indicates that
your Microsoft account has no Xbox Live Gamertag, or that your account must be updated in some way, such as agreeing to an updated terms of use.

You need a Xbox Live account to update and install those updates.

My account is not a child account but since I have the wrong date of birth it doesnt let me have access to all the adult options. This issue has only started recently as before I had access to everything.

Updating it from that link will only update the DOB for the Microsoft account attached to their Xbox Live account but it won't update the DOB of the Xbox Live Account itself. The DOB of the Xbox Live account is chosen during account creation and is set in
stone.

I think the account is a child account so how would I enable permissions? Tried after logging onto both websites and still get the error.

I understand that I need to download updates to Xbox Live to successfully sign in to Live. I just wanted to know if there was a way to restrict the updating process to just my account. That way when my son signs in and it wants to do an update he is denied
Xbox Live for a few hours until I can get home and do the update myself. Think of it like a temporary ban from Live until someone "responsible" is around to do the update. Based on your initial comment I assume this type of functionality is not available.
It might be something you want to consider for a future update. Basically have a "master" account that has admin privilages and then "basic" accounts that get temporarly banned from Live until the update is applied by the "master" account.
