    Kind of an unusual situation, but I live rural and so my data per month is somewhat limited. A large game update can take up a huge chunk of my available bandwidth for a given month, nevermind a regular game download. Thankfully I can take my Xbox to
    work to download a game or an update at my leisure. However, I would prefer it if I could just bring an external hard drive. Is there any way to update or download a game to an external hard drive on my PC then bring it home to play on my Xbox? I figured
    the answer might be no, but it seems as though no one has asked the question (that I could find) yet. It would be much easier to bring a hard drive than to cart my entire system.

    Xbox One Installation Stopped External Hard Drive

    I know there are a lot of posts but let me re-summarize.

    Hard drive was working with everything.

    Xbox updated.

    External Hard Drive allows Apps to install no issue, but games will not install or be moved to the External Hard Drive.

    Games that were on the external drive still work but are no longer able to update and as such error out when attempting to play.

    Given hardware did not change and is still in working order as evidenced by being read and installing Apps (small sized files compared to games), the only thing that changed was software (the update).

    Some users report certain external hard drive enclosures work still ($7.99 on Amazon) but previous ones stopped. This tells me there is a driver incompatibility or a soft block on certain external device enclosures.

    If you recently updated your console with the February 2020 update, it has bricked external hard drives world wide and Xbox Support refuses to acknowledge that the last update is causing an issue with external hard drives. No games will download, install,
    or launch from external drives since the update. They've known about this for close to a month.

    Are you using an External hard drive? A corrupted External hard drive may cause issues as well such as deletion of some installed games.

    I've just finished downloading/installing the newest system update for xbox one. The xbox now no longer recognizes my external hard drive. I have tried numerous times restarting the system, as well as unplugging/replugging in the external hard drive.
